helixA2 1 Posted January 24, 2014 Ok so this is the strategy that I'm using right now for when I spawn afresh; I haven't survived for more than a few hours at this point, I'm finding it quite difficult to stay alive (that's probably the point though!) - find a server that is day time (increasing the ping filter to 250 helps with this), and low players - run directly inland ignoring everything near the coast (I pretty much assume it's all been looted seeing as there is no loot respawn) - run generally towards someplace that has water, as it seems my characters pretty much always get very thirsty right off the bat (visiting any small loot locations on the way) - avoid larger towns entirely until I have found a gun (I haven't yet), sticking to the smaller villages and being careful not to get injured by the one or two zeds there (not very good at that part yet) I'm hoping that things get a little easier once I manage to finally get a character that has, food, something to open it with, a water bottle and at least an axe. Right now it seems very difficult to get past the first few hours. Maybe I've just been unlucky with loot. oh and on a side note, I came across a rabbit last night running across the road. I walked right up to it. I didn't have any weapons though. Is hunting animals something that has actually been implemented?
Advent1 126 Posted January 24, 2014 Animal hunting has no been implemented yet. As for avoiding large cities, I would advise otherwise, especially on servers that are below 20 people, most large towns are not looted entirely. Personally, I would suggest going INTO large towns and finding clothes, food, water, etc. THEN looking for weapons, but that's just me.If you want to have a larger server list, set all ping numbers to 0 which in turn show you every single server available. -MadTommy 367 Posted January 24, 2014 My advise: Don't ignore buildings near your spawn. Its amazing what people miss. A single tin of tuna can be the difference between life and death. Ideally find a water pump.. drink until you are full. About 10 times or more. Don't avoid large interior towns until you have a gun. An axe is the best weapon in game IMO, you can live for a long time with that alone. You are in more danger with a gun.. as people will be a lot quicker to shot you. Large inland towns are your bread n butter. Don't agro Zeds willy nilly. Creep around, dont be spotted.
Canned Muffins 82 Posted January 24, 2014 (edited) First spawn you look around and try to identify where you are. This map should help:http://dayzdb.com/map/chernarusplus Next find a well, pond, bottled,or canned beverages to take care of thirst. Find food to eatfind storage items like a bag or larger clothing itemsfind a weapon like an axe to deal with zombie.Do all of this while moving inlandDo not travel directly on roadsjog rather than running places to avoid fatigue when you find enough food and a well eat and drink until you are full and the rest so you can gain the healthy status.Avoid people who appear hostile and don't put yourself in harms way unless you are willing to restart back at the coast.Don't get attacked to gear you will die at some point and if you are alone chances are you will not see that gear again if you die. e00c 84 Posted January 24, 2014 (edited) Helix, I'm a new player too. I've made a few posts. It's very frustrating, seems like a pointless exercise to start with... but.. I'm now surviving quite well! Backpack, hunting pants, a dodgy Russian hat I had to pick it up.. lol. Tins of food, cereal, hammer, refillable water bottle. I'm good to go!I even helped 3 people out so far with directions and food.It is certainly worth checking buildings people have already been in... yes, its a chore! But, I found a fireman's axe in a police building. In my opinion, your doing right heading inland. I've had no luck on the coast either. I'm currently in Polana, heading more inland then I'll head south to Cherno or Elekto (use the map! Click me). I too saw a rabbit, I tried punching it.. it just looked at me <_< Oh... and don't drink lots of water all in one go. I did this, I'm now "stuffed" AND "hungry" at the same time :-/ I'm not sure how to fix this? Edited January 24, 2014 by jumling
e00c 84 Posted January 24, 2014 p.s: Night time is much more fun... and, it's easier to see other players / threats! :)
rickenbacker 190 Posted January 24, 2014 Just wait for the "stuffed" status to go away, then eat. Takes a few minutes. I think the entire stomach empties in about half an hour or so, so you can eat and drink pretty often. The fireaxe is the best weapon in the game. Once you have it, you can just run up to any zombies and one-hit them. Look for it in garages and workshops.

I presume the fire axe = firemans axe? No more avoiding zombies...

robhav11 2 Posted January 25, 2014 I have been playing 60+ hr within that time I died 8 times 3 by bandits, 2 by those awesome roof top ladders, grasp ladder while floating in thin air as I fall to my death my guy grabs latter then nothing but " your dead" , 2 by helping out new spawns that was no other then bandits with buddies on the hill side. And once by serving a fire fight had that awesome gray screen and zombie killed me through a wall. So lessons to get out of this. Ladders suck be careful. Bandits will never go away be extra ninga while moving through city's. This is not COD or battle Field. Get a map online screw in game ones. Know were your going before you go. Weapon backpack food and water then explore. Hit low end servers when exploring then hit high end if you want to bandit or hero play. Good luck guys. I'm looking for ppl to play along side with. I'm on steam robhav1 look me up. Remember the game is gonna get better but for now just learn it
Howard Moon 0 Posted January 25, 2014 I was doing pretty good today.... played for several hours, made it Waaayyy inland, but never could find a weapon besides stupid plumbers wrench. I had found a pack and food and water and good clothes... wandered into interior town and set off the zeds... lots of them. Of course they ran through whatever to follow my every zig and zag. Last week, if you ran upstairs, the zeds would get stuck in the bottom floor of a stucture.. so I tried that.. Well, four of them suddenly appeared in the upstairs room I was hiding in... they came right through the floor and walls! So I run, bleeding out... no time for bandages.. finally get far enough away.. start bandaging and start getting hit by another zed. and I'm unconscious.. damn. I'm learning what will set off the zeds and what won't and i guess I got careless, but the zeds sure seemed in larger numbers than I'd seen and fast, and nimble and aggressive... much more than what I'm used to. And of course, I got further with the guy who could never find an axe. Everytime in the last few days when I've had a fire axe and good stuff, only to have no ability to save and servers reseting me to the beach each time. Finally they've seemed to fix that as I stopped and started several times today. Too late for more today, but tomorrow.. I'll try again.. and this time, I'm not leaving the coast without a fire axe if I can help it. Damn Zeds. And no, knock on wood, I've yet to come across another player yet... but 99% of my week of playing has all been night games. Thanks for the tips!
e00c 84 Posted January 25, 2014 Zeds seem to be a bit 'iffy' at the moment. Some times you can just walk around them. Others, you see them sprinting towards you from the horizon!
