alleycat 135 Posted January 24, 2014 Here is a fix I would like to propose to fix characters getting reset every time there is maintenance or someone in rocket HQ trips over a cable. I might be talking out of my tush here, here is what I think is happening: 1. Player connects.2. Server asks main database for player information -If the player data is retrieved, game server takes that and loads the player and his gear-If the player is dead he will spawn as a new player (now this is where the problem happens I think)-If the server fails to get data from the database it simply defaults to assuming the player is new and spawns him as new. Then the server keeps saving the player data periodically and sending that stuff to the main database, effectively ruining some players day because his shit got reset. So it looks like a failure to get data from hive/HQ/database. The game should have a failsafe so that when the hive cant be reached, it should drop the connection/show an error instead of simply overwriting the player with a blank new spawn status.
gc_stealth 30 Posted January 24, 2014 But then you have the issue of people complaining because servers keep kicking them :P Your character is still saved currently even with the issues as long as you find a server that is connected to the hive. A lot of rented servers currently aren't connected to the hive so no player data is saved when you leave a server so everytime it spawns you as a new character. In the meantime people will just need to work out which servers are actually working correctly and are connected to the hive.
alleycat 135 Posted January 24, 2014 But what if the server only failed to read data from the hive at some point, but then establishes a working connection, and starts sending player data (of that newly spawned player?) Do you get what I mean? 1. Server fails to get data from hive, places new spawn.2. When it attemps to save the player data (and actually gets through this time) it overwrites the old non wiped character with the new spawn one. That is why there should be a failsafe to prevent the server from saving player data if it failed to get data from the hive
CMoth 4 Posted January 24, 2014 (edited) This was my reset today: I was playing on the same server I've been playing on for several days. I played for about 4 hours and then logged off to do some laundry. Thirty minutes later, logged back onto the same server... character wipe. No hop. Character not only re-spawned without gear but also as a completely different set up to my default settings. Server was DayZ IL 2-8 hosted by Gameservers.com ETA: Okay. After posting this I restarted the game, logged back in and found myself basically back to normal but at a save point prior to my 4 hour game session. So, while not as frustrating as a complete wipe it sure points to a hive save issue. Edited January 24, 2014 by CMoth
Irenicus (DayZ) 289 Posted January 24, 2014 Sorry but you don't know what you are talking about. The issue is being resolved and is far more complicated than you are admitting.
CMoth 4 Posted January 24, 2014 Wow, thanks. That cleared things right up. I suddenly feel so much better now. It's amazing, all you had to do was show up and vomit out a couple of insulting remarks and the world seems brighter somehow.
