Chrison 0 Posted January 23, 2014 Hi guys! A few days ago I requested an Instance ID for hosting a hive on my root server. So far I neither did receive a YES nor a NO from anyone, but having in mind that the last patch was released I assume everyone in the support team is busy as hell right now (and there might be more urgent topics right now than granting permission to host a day z server ;) )Anyways can someone speak from experience how long it usually takes to get your instance id?And if you got it, is it possible to join the experimental branch by choice? (or even use both branches within the same instance id? ) Would be nice to get some shared experiences from experienced administrators of dayz servers. Maybe you could also leave some hints on how to tweak the performance and stuff like that? (there are always one or two parameters you can change to gain a better result for customers/players) Thanks,Chris
theArk0s 4 Posted January 23, 2014 Right now all DayZ Standalone hosting is limited to 3rd party/commercial approved hosting services only (Multiplay, Fragnet, Vilayer, Gamservers, etc.) - you can't host a server on your own. If you want to run/admin your own server, you need to rent one from an approved vendor, and even then the administrative control you have over the box is extremely limited (set hostname, MOTD, Regular/Hardcore, timezone offset, kick players). Supposedly the ability to set sub-private hives was enabled in the last patch as well...but no details on how to configure/enable that per-server has been documented or communicated yet, so there are really only 2 official public hives available right now - the public "Regular mode" hive/shard and the public "Hardcore mode" hive/shard. Beyond that, server tuning/parameters/etc. are pretty much locked down or controlled by the hosting companies and follow whatever Bohemia interactive require for the game. I would guess they're likely to stay that way for some time throughout the alpha, and maybe even beta, until if/when official word the potential availability of self-hosting servers is ever released (if that feature is even officially on the roadmap for release).

Is this an official statement or just what people say?Cause I havent seen this within any policy or whatever when I placed my Instance-ID order, so I always assumed you only have to fulfill the requirements written down within the hosting policy. The only thing that is not allowed is hosting a server on a so called homeserver, eventhough you have all requirements (anyways, cause of ISP's you cannot do that in germany, thats why I have my own root server hosted by a professional hosting company) I'm also wondering why it then takes them so long to decline my instance-id order, which was placed +/- a week ago... Shouldn't this be done by now, if they already know I'm not allowed to host a server by my own? Anyways thanks for your fast response. But it would be nice to get an official statement on that (and maybe it would be a good idea to put that into hosting rules and knowledge base as well ;) )
theArk0s 4 Posted January 30, 2014 (edited) That's my opinion/belief only...the only think "official" I can point you to is Rocket's post: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/153994-early-access-important-information-known-issues/#entry1545068 Where he states: How can I run my own server? We want to allow private hosting, which includes passworded servers, but we are finalizing changes to our database that will allow us to run a little data instance just for that server. This gives the best of both having a database and having a private community, without those private communities affecting the main database. I don't know of anyone running their own servers at the moment, only professional/commercial ISPs with high capacity hosting arrangements. Not to say that it won't change at some point...like Rocket says, they "want" to allow private hosting...but that's not a guarantee in my mind, nor is there any definite timeframe for making it happen, even if it was. Sorry I don't have anything more definitive for you. Edited January 30, 2014 by theArk0s
