throwing objects while running and other observations from a newbie

Recommended Posts

First time poster and relatively new to DayZ.

I was having the hardest time for a while then all of a sudden I found night time easier for some reason. Flashlights didn't seem to bother zombies and I could crouch walk around. I used flares to lure them away from places, worked like a charm. But when I finally had to run and had a million of them chasing me, I wanted to throw or drop a flare to see if I couldn't distract some of them. Didn't seem to work or I did something wrong? (Had just been at it for 3 hours, finally found drinks and food, and rifle when I had to step into a zombie...which ended badly, of course)

I would like to be able to drop flares on the ground while running, and possibly throwing cans on the go as well (but the cans weren't working for me as well as the flares).

A few things I've observed over the few times playing and would like to be looked at or at least discussed.

I'm fine with zombies opening doors and to some extend climbing ladders...but swimming? I'm not a fan of that idea, plus they can sometimes walk on water and seem to be tap dancing on it while trying to hit a player.

Why does all ammo drop when dropping a weapon? Sometimes you don't have time to be picking up stuff you never intended to drop, I've enough troubles with the inventory system as it is.

Why can't I wield a hatchet and carry a rifle at the same time? The hatchet is in the tool belt slot where the flashlight can be stored as well (and I can use the flashlight while carrying the rifle). Why can't I just disarm the rifle and then arm myself with the hatchet?

Is it possible with some hot buttons or configuring the keyboard commands? I had a zombie in a corner of a open ended barn, and wanted to sneak upon him and hit him with the hatchet and then the rifle dropped with the ammo, then I couldn't see anything when I got the hatchet, since it was during the night...so I was more or less looking at the inventory screen for 5 minutes or more...I ended up throwing a flare to lure him out.

I think that's it for now. Thanks.

Everything your More so complaining about has to do with the ArmA 2 engine and physics, and little to nothing to do with the Mod
