Is this OK for young teens?

Recommended Posts

Hi

I have two questions.  My son is going to be 14 in a couple of months.

1.  Is this game OK for a 14 year old?

2. If it is can he play it without going on multi-player?  That would be a requirement for us to allow it either way.

Thanks

1.  Yes, if you want him to learn to kill every player he sees.  Even the unarmed ones.

2.  No

If you he wants to play it for the zombies i suggest the left 4 dead games.

When it comes to just shooting other players than Counter strike, call of duty, or battlefield could be a better.option

He could play Quake 3 but this? This is way more sick. Why don't you spend time with him instead of introducing him to computer games? Teach him something, that will be more valuable than frags in DayZ.

Let him play it when he's 18 and DayZ has all the features we are waiting for.

I am sure lot's of fathers answered already.

DayZ is no different from any other mature title, SP or MP. Skyrim, fallout, metro, saint's row, etc...

All have the same amount of violence and bloodshed. Heck even God of War had some sexual mechanics in the game.

If that would not be enough for you to make a solid decision ( which I find very strange... ) you'll have all the multiplayer component with absolutely everything you can imagine plus what you cannot.

My final answer to my offspring is, especially because of the MP, No.

DayZ is hella different compared to games like Saints. Row/GTA/etc.

The most profanity supplied by DayZ is the ability to perform a flip-off gesture, aside from interactions with other players on voice, which is no different if his kid has ever played xbox or play station online.

And there are NO sexual mechanics in DayZ! None!

A definite NO for multiplayer (which is what this game is at the moment).

And the NO is not so much due to the game as it is the mentality of the players. As it is a survival game, the vast majority of players take on the mentality of "trust no one" in order to survive in the game. That means new players looking for friendly players will be in for a rude awakening. They will be mistrusted, attacked, and ignored...mostly attacked.

Unless your 14 year old can handle people at their worse, don't buy this game for them.

Also, it is unlikely that DayZ will have a single player mode.

It depends on the 14 year old. You have a much better idea how mature/impressionable your son is.

Also, you may take a look at the game and think 'Ah that's OK...he watches stuff more scary than that on TV'. Then one day you'll look over at his screen and notice some adults have him handcuffed, stripped to his undies, kneeling down, with a bag over his head....You may change your mind then.

My parents refused to let me watch Beavis and Butthead, I am now a sociopath. Just kidding, I found ways to watch it anyway which made them feel deceived and made me feel like a liar.

I say, if you're going to let him play it, just monitor the situation very closely for a while and see what you think. Eventually he will want to join a teamspeak (third party communication software) and that's what you'll want to monitor really closely. It will be a group of other players talking about EVERYTHING, some groups are more mature some are less mature, some have that one member that is really bad, some have that one member that is a really wonderful morally sound person that will be a good influence on your kid.

He will honestly spend most of his time running around playing alone. In game player communication is usually limited and the game itself isn't really gory or subversive in any way.

I'm 36, if I had a kid, I would let him play it and probably enjoy playing it with him. There's some life lessons in the game, it requires extreme patience and perseverance. It's not a Call of Duty type game. . . and that is a very very good thing. What are some other games you allow him to play?

EDIT: Also, kudos for doing the research. It's obvious that you are a good parent, he's lucky and if he doesn't realize that now, he will when he gets older.

If someone can't handle mean words on a monitor wrote by a random someone over the internet they HAVE some issues. It's impossible that a normal person, normal being the normal defined by today's standards, could over react to words on a screen.

Full stop.

I study IT, my friend is studying psychology. We often discuss about this and we both reach the same conclusion. Amd we are not the only ones.

Please, stop saying that cyber bullying causes mental issues.

If someone puts a nude on the internet and people keep spamming it around THAT'S HER GODDAMN FAULT for putting a NUDE on the INTERNET and hoping to keep it private.

You just need a bit of common sense and a half-working brain to survive the internet.

I think the replies to your question speak for themselves.
