A few things that may help

Recommended Posts

So I am a solo DayZ player atm, and there are a lot of bugs and problems that I have figured out that I didn't see an immediate post about these things.

How to climb ladders:  The best way is to put everything away and stand up.  If you are taking the ladder up, it should be easy to get onto it, but the going down can be deadly.  Standing up is very important to avoid vaulting over the wall and to your death or a serious injury.  The game will automatically put away the item you might be holding, but I usually do that manually just in case.  You are vulnerable on ladders.  I know the last thing is obvious for most, but zombies can hit you, people can shoot you and all you can do is masturbate.

Multiple weapons, or taking items without space:  So you obviously know you can equip one primary firearm, but cannot bag any of them.  As well, sometimes (especially early) you don't have enough bag space for all of the items you see.  When this happens, all you need to do is make sure your hands are empty, and then press F or the mouse wheel (interact) near the item and select the "Take _____ into hands" when it appears.  This will allow you to hold and use an item without it being in your immediate inventory or equipped.  The item will be dropped when you use anything else, or climb a ladder.

Invisible loot:  I have personally found a lot of invisible or "sharking" loot.  Mostly on the top of the large industrial spawn.  The items are there, but you cannot loot them without using the "Vicinity" tab of the inventory screen.  When I know an area has the possibility of loot, or even just in hallways, I will simply move with the inventory screen open.  This will help me find loot that I didn't see.

Looting areas:  Some people don't know that broken down cars have doors and trunks that open.  The items inside are not lootable without the door being open (I think).  As well, check roofs.  Using the ladder trick from earlier you can largely avoid death when checking these areas.

Vaulting:  Some people may not be aware, but when vaulting if you are sprinting (double tap W) or running (holding shift) you will do a hopping vault.  If you are walking, sneaking or prone you will do a "stepping over" animation.  Sometimes the stepping over animation still plays even when you are running.

Autorun:  Get something to autorun.  You will need to get to key locations and holding W gets annoying.  DayZ does not allow software like G15 macros to "hold" W for you, but if you can set a "hardware playback" option that might work.  I use a piece of foam wedged in between my desk surface and the keyboard tray.  Another option would be to use a controller and force the stick/D-Pad to stay somehow.

hair band on the 360 controller joystick works well for autorun.

Double ammo stacks:  At the moment, you can stack 5.56 rounds in stacks of 60 with the coupled magazines.  Simply empty a full magazine with no other stacks less than 30 in your bags and you will get a stack of 60.  I use this with an ammo box for storage.
