jprime84 22 Posted January 21, 2014 Stuff has mass, yo! I was thinking to myself as I sprinted through the woods with a full camping backpack "wow, I must have hit the treadmill hard before the apocalypse". I suggest adding item weight as an attribute to items in the world. I realize that is somewhat managed now by how much space it takes up in the inventory, but mass and volume are different so why not account for both if going for realism? If someone wants to carry a large amount of things, I would have it either affect their maximum speed, or their rate of energy and water consumption. This creates a system where lighter weight foods and equipment can be more valued, instead of just bringing anything you find in one bag. If someone chooses to run and gun lightly equipped, they can be rewarded with higher mobility. You could maybe even reduce the zombie aggro radius for them or something because they would be stealthier. Once bases or loot drop sites are implemented, their use would be increased by having an encumbrance system. It becomes essential to drop some of your stuff off once in a while to retain mobility. Anyways, just an idea that hopefully wouldn't complicate development deadlines too severely
Vector636 30 Posted January 21, 2014 Yeah I liked the different mods like epoch that used this idea, it would make you choose what to carry with you a lot more often then just trading spaces in your backpack..
