[Suggestion] A Harder Game

Recommended Posts

Ok, so what I am about to say would never work until the loot farming stops. Hopefully I can break down my line of thought and go from there to how I think would be a really cool way to make the game more, well, hard.

I would consider myself an average citizen. I have a hunting rifle (not a fucking aresenal of weapons like some americans) and for that rifle I have exactly 13 rounds. Five of these rounds are loaded and the other 7 are in the box.

Now this is a leap but stay with me...

If a zombie apocalypse were to break out, the first thing I would want to do regarding my weapon is get more ammo. Where do you buy ammo? The ammo store! Duh! Also Walmart, sporting stores, and shooting ranges.

But, I most likely wouldn't go to the ammo store. Why? Because that's everyone's thought, and most likely the owners would defend that place till their death which would most likely occur because of zombies not other people.

But why aren't these type of stores in the game? How come the only place I can go to find ammo is military outposts? And why are there so many military outposts anyway?

The way I see it, if you find a firearm in a residential house you have a chance to find different amounts of ammunition along with the weapon. I also think there should be ammunition stores or sporting stores that have bounds of weapons ammunition and camping gear (hence the sporting store nature { at least in the states})

Now these stores would be largely contested by players, but also have an abnormally high zombie count because of the previous owners defense of the area.

So essentially you could not just run into the store and grab the ammo and get out without

1 a decent amount of weapons/ammo

2 a intelligent plan

3 other survivors to help kill/distract zombies.

In parralel with these new loot spawns I would also suggest that all the public hive servers are synched together to all "reset at the same time" and that they would reset every once in awhile, like maybe once every 5 days for example ( this could change depending on what ended up balancing well). So on the 4th day it would kind of be like the 4th year real time after an apocalypse. Everything would be rare.

Then what would happen?

1. Food would be rare

2. Supplies would be rare.

3. Ammo would be rare.

4. Surviving would be difficult.

5. People would band together and/or punch some one to death for the beans/eat each other.

Then eventually the servers would restart and it would play slightly different because some people would have survived and had camps in towns or what have you. What would also be interesting is eventually the ammo stores would be back in the hands of survivors on restarts.

I think this could make for a really interesting more challenging experience along with what the devs currently have in mind.

Anyway just a thought. Let me know what you think/improvements you have.

<<<<<<<<TDLR>>>>>>>>

1. Implement ammo/sports stores.

2. Have those stores have higher amounts of zombies (because of above)

3. Spawn small amounts of ammo close to firearms.

4. Synchronize server restarts to all be the same on public hive.

5. Increase the amount of time that elapses between server restarts. The example I gave was 5 days.

A lot of this stuff won't be implemented for a while to make this possible. Most servers I've seen are restarting every 4-8 hours, and zombies simply can't be produced in threatening numbers yet.

However, the idea of hunting/ammo/camping stores is a good one. I also like the idea of them being in decent sized towns and surrounded by zombies.

However, I'd like to make an extra suggestion while we're wishing and hoping. A store that carries ammo in decent amounts is locked on server restart. The glass windows and doors are barred, allowing you to shoot in and out but not enter. The doors are heavy, reinforced and locked with things like padlocks, deadbolts and more.

Perhaps one of the nearby zombies carries a key, or maybe it is in a nearby house. Maybe it is lost. You can break in, using a crowbar, screwdriver, axe, or maybe even by blasting the locks with a firearm. However, all of these B&E methods have the penalty of time and/or noise. Maybe they make it impossible to close the door behind you once you're in. This means that you either have to find the keys, clear the zombies, or have a friend or squad watching your back as you get in.

Another thing that would be good to implement for this purpose is static containers. Not like the 300 round ammo boxes, but actual display cases, safes and weapon racks. Some of these may also be locked, requiring more time. But they also serve the purpose of easing the load on player computers/servers by having less items spawned in the physical world, allowing you to have large amounts of ammo/gear in a single place with less strain.

All of these things will make these stores a more exciting and difficult "mission" to access, rather than just being a guaranteed spot to find ammo.

I don't think it is legal to buy or own weapons in Czech Republic. That'll be the reason there are no gun stores.

Yes I love that idea.

Make it very hard with the locks, but still possible with a friend, but almost suicide alone.

I like when getting good loot is hard, that way it means something to you, and to not carelessly get killed by someone who would want to take it from you.

I know the Chernarus map is based on a real place in CR, but at the same time it is its own fictional country. It's got a lot of Russian in there, maybe a little touch of Serbia. It seems like a poverty ridden place, occupied by both Russian and American military forces at times. It also seems like the place where people had to fend for themselves, not necessarily just for self defense, but to put food on the table. Hunting stores seem like a good fit, especially when we have game to hunt of the furry variety (no, not ghillies).

There were no walmarts in Russia before 1990. No weapon stores either.

My guess is that we are in the time of zombie apocalypse when tehre are still suplies in most obvious places nad that everyone think that going to military base, hospital and supermarket is a good idea and so there are mass slughters there.

Introducing said stores would be implying that upon server restart we are at the beginning of an outbreak. Stores are still stocked, doors are still locked. I more prefer the idea that we are further along in the process. The majority of people are dead, and the majority of supplies are used. Maybe play with the same idea and focus them around the military bases? The bases would have lasted longer, and would possibly have supplies left over. Add the high zombie population to them, and throw some locks on the doors.
