Still waiting for a player to communicate with me

Maybe my mic doesnt work.  Ive been alive for 3 separate game sessions on my current life, making my way from elektro currently up to Polana on a server that typically has 25-35 players.  I ran into another new spawn with a bit more gear in Elektro, and he just ran off after I surrendered but he didnt speak.  By the time I got to polana I have plenty of food, water, medical supplies, 7.62 ammo, 35 slot pack, and a few camo bits.  I even have a fnx45, but no mags or ammo for it.

 

I stick to the woods mostly, but bump into another player in Polana.  I see him before he sees me, and I can see no firearm.  I say hello, and we look at each other a bit.  I announce that I am friendly and will keep out of his way.  I have a baseball bat, and the handgun is in a chest holster but still no way to shoot it.  No response from the guy, other than he pulls out an ax and runs at me.  I get hit once but make it out of town and lose him.

 

How often do you guys encounter another player outside of the coastal cities?  how often do you exchange words?

That there is pritty much my experience as well. since i started 2 days ago. and ive prolly logged 10h+ each of those days.

i meet some one and they either

 

a. shoot me dead at first sight,

b. Shout something in a foreign language and lunges at me (with their melee weapon)

c. stand there for a couple seconds looking at me then runs off,

b, kills me without me noticing he was there. (from range with rifle or sneaking up)

 

havent actually meet anyone so far that was willing to trade a word or 2

oh and i do have a microphone hooked up. the first thing i do when i see someone is usaly say friendly,

Did a run through the woods from Elektro to Balota. although that I was trying to do.
Mosin on my back, FNX holsterd on my chest (no ammo), and also a fire axe.

Somewhere far in the woods between Cherno and Balota some guy shot at me with a mosin. Took him around 4/5 shots to kill me.

Couldn't dodge the last 2 bullets and had no time to grab my axe to axe him to death

 

Don't have many other experience than that, besides the time that some armed guy give me some water when i just spawned.

Guys - keep trying. You're having bad luck. You'll probably experience a general propensity towards hostile behavior, but you will have some good interactions eventually.

 

It's funny, because at one point I decided to come down from the north to give away my gear, and all I found were hostile people, people who wanted me to kill them for a new spawn, bleeding dupes or AFK, and one guy with whom I couldn't find common language, but who waved, so I gave him some food.

Not everyone shares your ideas on wanting to communicate with others, so be careful when approaching others. To answer your question though, I usually run into 3 or 4 people a day in the smaller inland towns/villages. Most are friendly and will ask for help or advice but then some will run away/log out at the first sign of contact, some will bum rush you for your loot. A lot depends on the server you choose, some do have helpful people but most of the servers are full of people who want to play TDM.

The typical form of communication Ive encountered is a bullet coming from some unseen location and then a black screen.

I helped bambis the one night for a couple hours, but even then there wasnt much response to me.

Hang in there, there are decent players in the game. Most people are too scared to respond. Not everyone shares your ideas on wanting to communicate with others, so be careful when approaching others. To answer your question though, I usually run into 3 or 4 people a day in the smaller inland towns/villages. I usualy avoid the mainroads. That's why i ran through the forests. Never thought i would see someone there. Had some luck tho. Joined a server just after restart or five minutes before xD

It took me 8 guys until I finally found someone who could talk or write back. The other 7 people before that were unable to talk and/or write. I tried both - in two languages - just in case they couldn't understand me.

My current character has intereacted with probably 12 people, about 7 whom responded. My advice is dont go up to someone with a gun pointed or yelling "friendly friendly friendly" I usually start with a "hello". If they run away, i let them. if they point a gun at me, i point a gun back while strafing to cover. (usually only a step or two away). Most responses are nothing more than "hello?", "I surrender" (even though i havent asked them to), the good old wiggle dance or just outright abuse. I think most people think you are going to kill them anyway so why bother.

 

Yesterday i was down south of solnichy giving canteens, food and bandages away to news spawns when a geared played sees me, i see him crouch and point a gun at me, i run like buggery to a wall, then step out with my mosin pointed at him, he runs for cover.. still no shots fired, I duck behind the wall and change to a magnum, thinking all hell is about to break loose, step back to see he has a pistol up as well.. each of us on one side of a wall, I step out again with my magnum up, ready to fire... we stare each other down, he says "Hi". I lowered my pistol, he lowered his.. then we walked and talked all the way up to the ship wreck at Rify, where i depart as he is meeting 2 mates and I'm not quite ready to trust 3 complete strangers who can communicate on TS without me hearing,

 

Even when you do communicate and are chatting, trading, etc.. have free look on and keep an eye on them and your surroundings... you just never know.

Same here. Had a decent loadout and gear when i encountered 2ppl in Elektro,  one fleeing from zombies the other just came out of a house (dunno if they were friends). I saw them first and said "Hi" in chat and saluted that second guy. While i was about to ask if we should help the other guy, he turned round, took his FNX and shot me - Game over. Maybe next time i`ll just kill everything i see.

My last encounter was in Berenzino at the hospital, 2 of my friends were looting the hospital and patching each other up when I see a guy over at one of the water wells. I informed my buddies and went to get a better angle on our new friend, I said over chat, "hey bro, I see you over there and 2 other dudes have you in their sights. We are only gonna be here for a few more seconds but when we go you are free to loot the hospital." I informed him we were not out to kill anyone but that axe you are carrying is making my buddies real nervous, so please don't come around the corner with it out. He says "dude I was held up by another player and force fed rotten fruit and needed meds badly. He put the axe on the ground and said I'm gonna die soon if I can't get help."

Now at this point I felt compelled to help out but its a bad news/good news situation, bad news is no charcoal tabs or alcohol tinctures in the hospital to heal his sickness and the infected wounds he was harboring. Good news is we had a ton of medical supplies and needed room for more ammo/loot. After we got him all patched up and gave him a can opener, a few cans of beans and a few water bottles we sent him on his way. He thanked us a thousand times for not shooting him. That's my story, sorry that its a bit long.

Unfortunately the coast spawn areas are team death match ATM. To find nicer ppl get of the coast and head North. No one talks down there with a few exceptions. I find only people that want to use you as target practice, take your loot, or run away scared because of said banditry.

Having said that cautious aggression will keep you alive. Keep a weapon out, and stay close to cover when meeting people. Don't say "friendly", as it way overused to draw people in to kill them. If someone is talking to you and doesn't lower their weapon, stay in cover, and if they lower theirs, do the same. Above all trust no-one

The 3 times I was geared and ran into someone all I hear is "Friendly friendly friendly" I wave and say friendly back. Next thing I see is the black screen of death. I see why people KOS, I am really trying to be a good guy but after 3 times trying to talk and get slaughtered I am about to give up and just kill anybody I see with a weapon.

I've had two 'interactions' with a player thus far.  The first was an apparent bullet to the back of my head as a fresh spawn.  Didn't even have a melee weapon.  The second was nicer.  Was drinking some dirty water and looked up and seen a guy staring at me.  He said Hi and I responded.  No mic usage though, but he restored my faith a little in players.  I'm still looking for a buddy to roam towns/hillsides with though.

Yeah ive tried that and it dosent work.

ive encountered a few randoms and this is usaly how it goes now.

 

i hear something that tells me someone is near. "pulse goes up" ok pull out a weapon "preferably pistol if i got one"

hunker down and look around  some random guy comes running out in my field of vision turns around looking and spots me.  (i wasent trying to hide out of view simply get some cover"

he immediatly turns to me and says nothing (or says something in what sounds like Russian) raises his weapon (my luck im usaly faced off against someone thats got ranged weapons and knows how to use em. or so it feels like)

i wave  or say Hi with the microphone he then lowers his weapon and runs off around a corner.

i look for a second and then turn around to sprint away cause having someone close to me freaks me out since ive died about 80% of the time someone got close to me "simply cause i hope their friendly and not a totall douche"

just as im about to turn around the guy comes out around the corner with weapon drawn and "so far i havent had any meleer doing this" and shots me dead.

 

so yeah im really starting to understand the hole shoot first thing.

ive learned my lesson tho, even if they pulls the old run around corner like they dont wanna fight. im not gonna turn away nor lower my weapon at this point, move away by backing or something.

but yeah i dunno i just had this vision of me hunkering down at some forrest edge end just camp some village or town and just start shooting practice on anyone that comes in my field of view. cause frankly i suck at shooting and need the practice plus it might help blow off some steam. (not that im planning on doing this, just an idea)

 

So far ive only managed to kill 2 people. the first one i mentioned in my first post on the forum and the second one was earlier today. had a russian with a mosin coming up towards me and i told him lower his weapon or ill shoot ( i had him in my sight before he saw me) guy started shooting and well i think i was lagging like hell but i emptied an entire clip on him and i still had to walk up to him while he was on the ground to finish the job.

 

thats 2 out of eh ive lost track of how many times ive been KoS now. and this is only what my third or fourth day?

anyway so yeah saying friendly or waving or lowering your weapon after they lower theirs, nothing works.

at the end your just gonna hafto take a leap of faith. and if you cant, well i guess shooting them as soon as they lowered their weapon or simply start KoS your self is your only choice.

me im still undecided,

i think i would like to join a marauder Death Squad or something tho,. just hunt those suckers down ( the Marauders i mean)

Well guys/gals I will tell you this, I am no saint. I've gunned down several players because they don't listen or won't listen to me when I ask them to lower their weapon or run at you like a mad man with some sort of melee weapon. I don't try to make friends with everyone I see but I always state my intentions. I have always told people i meet that I have no intention to kill you but I will put a bullet in your ass if you are looking for trouble. I understand peoples frustration with the guys who play this game like its bf4 or c.o.d., however I also understand you payed your money, you can play how you like. I have been gunned down more times than I care to remember but I still refuse to be that guy and shoot anything that moves.

A good friend of mine explained to me that sometimes killing is nessesary but it doesn't mean you have to kill everyone. Matter of fact that is how I met most of my clan. We don't run around trying to be heroes but we will offer any bit of help we can to people. Most of the time it works out well but then we've been on the wrong end of the situation as well. Unlike a lot of Dayz vets I will not tell you that there is only 1 way to play this game or the mod, that's for you to decide but don't fall into the shoot first ask questions later trap. Its hard to get out of that mentality but like I said before I can understand the frustration of trying to be friendly, only to get a severe case of lead poisoning for your troubles. Once again sorry for the long post
