The biggest let down since I encountered my first wonderbra

Recommended Posts

Hey,

So after several hours of frustratingly tweaking setting patches installing game booster and RAMDisk I finally managed to squeeze 20 FPS out of DayZ (Despite ARMA 2 running at 40-60 FPS).

So now I've just spent the next 2 hours frustratingly crawling around buildings you cant go in finding no weapons then been unable to defend myself when a single zombie spots me from 30 yards.

From what I understand everyone used to spawn with a Gun. Now to keep the game real I can understand not everyone carries a Gun but you need some way to defend yourself against a single zombie.

I'm sure those who love to spend their Saturdays sitting in a tank for 10 hours in ARMA 2 just love this hardcore shit but its mainstream appeal seems pretty lacking.

Dont get me wrong perma death and one shot and you dead fantastic. Make the zombies even harder to kill if you want but spawning without a way to defend yourself. Really???

Like I said in the title this game is the biggest let down since I encountered my first wonderbra.

Ever heard of Melee? It's a fabulous installment.

You can melee with no weapon? How do you do that?

I just spawned at night got my flash light out walked 10 feet into a zombie and disconnected from the server.

You need to be patient. I cannot stress it enough. Even if you are dying constantly, it does not mean the game is bad in any way or the devs need to do something about it. Think about what you might do if you were in the same situation. Would you whip out your flashlight immediately, or scout around for a hatchet or other weapon?

that's the problem with the mainstream bandwagon you jump on while it's moving and complain the ride is bumpy.

Dude you hit the nail on the head, I'm like a kid in a sweet shop I just couldn't wait and now I'm disappointed.

I know the devs work hard on the game and its in Alpha. Its a shame it didnt go through a closed beta. Rocket said in his interview with TotalBiscuit he didnt expect more than 600 concurrent users and he was weary of showing the game in its current state. Now the games gaining so much attention main streamers like me jump on the bandwagon.

Its hard too because everyone loves zombies. Its a thrill to be in the world. but its built on a engine that most people are not familiar with not only do you have to contend with new introduced bugs you have to also equate some of the short comings to the limitations of the engine.

Complaining about the ride once you get on is something YOU should alleviate as soon as you bring it to notice. Either bear with it or leave the wagon.

Appreciate the comment. I just wanted to have my 2 cents on finally playing the game.

Before we begin, this is the second time today I've seen you make reference to the fact that there's a female avatar. Get over yourself. Not every feature is just for you, ladies that play the game want an avatar that reflects them.

There are multiple ways you can evade zeds now. When you aggro zombies... run. Run into as big a building as you can find. The small buildings the zeds will glitch into. Once inside go prone, and you'll drop them. If you don't drop them, and the building is big enough, like a warehouse, move to the back and let all the zeds come walking in, kite them to one side of the building. Once they're far enough in, run out the front door and start going around corners putting as much distance and as many obstacles between you and them that you can. You'll break line of sight and lose them. Once you've broken line of sight, go prone and keep going.

If you're out in the boonies and there aren't any buildings, find the steepest hill you can and sprint in a zig zag pattern up it. You'll keep sprinting, the zeds will try to take a straight line to you and go into walk mode because the hill is to steep. Get over the top of the hill and haul ass, breaking line of sight any way you can. Go around pine trees, run diagonally through the trees. If they stay on you and the other side of the hill is steep enough, they'll fall down trying to come down after you. Keep going and do what it takes to break LOS.

You can also just run around a building, make two tight turns at the corners then keep going straight. Get prone as soon as you can.

A bullet is not the only solution to Zed aggro.

I didnt say the game was bad I said it was a let down. I suppose what I'm trying to say is the games a but like marmite at the moment. Your either gonna love it or hate it. Now they cant go about changing marmite now but DayZ is in Alpha and doesnt have to turn out like marmite.

I suppose it depends on the vision Rocket has for the game. Reasonable men adapt themselves to the world around them. Unreasonable me adapt the world to themselves. Thats why all human progress was and will be made by unreasonable men.

I'm not criticising the game I'm sure it will turn out great I'm just expressing my first impressions in the new player discussion bit.

Us noobs need to stick together. There's frikin zombies outside and I cant throw a punch!!! lol

But you can throw a bottle or can. Get them to look the other way and then walk out the door.

That's because I wrote this post straight after the last one and still thought it was funny tits were added to the game before bug fixes and if possible explorable building models.

But on a more serious note if every feature was for me tits would have already been in the game. The ARMA 3 ragdoll would be pretty sweet for this maybe they'll add it to the ARMA 2 beta patch.

You should stay out of your mothers underwear drawer.

I agree my mothers 65 and suffers from old age incontinence. Nothing in that draw but a bad time.

Yeah I just been trying this but I hit the door frame alerting the zombie and got stuck trying to get out. Doors and zombies this game will be the end of me.

This isn't finished yet and it shows, and you have noticed as well. Wait awhile so it can be polished and finished. Right now, you are a TESTER. Don't like TESTING it, leave and come back when it's done. Because right now you are judging an unfinished project.

Tyler,

the game engine is flawed, but offers many interesting things no other game offers at the same time. There are many frustrating things with this game and mod, but I don't think you're right in comparing this so called hardcore experience to somebody who sits in a tank on A2 for 10 hours. The problem for beginners is that you have to be patient from the very beginning. Either you go all out running in hopes that you'll find a weapon while slowing the zombies down, or you go sneaky from the moment you start. It doesn't take hours to find a weapon, and you don't have to die ten times. Crouch. Walk. Keep in mind that different surfaces make different amounts of sound.

Finding enterable buildings with loot in can be difficult when you haven't played before as there are many building models that you can't go into. Look for open doors and look for barns. Barns are always good, especially since they're a lot easier to get into.

Try playing with a friend, or meeting up with another newbie on one of the full servers. It doesn't sound like this game isn't for you, but simply that you weren't ready for the learning curve. Once you're set, sometimes this mod feels really arcade. It depends entirely on the choices you make.
