Are items permanent when you drop em on the ground?

So I want to start making a small camp, and I want to stack up on foods, etc. Can I just drop them somewhere and they will stay there forever?

No. You need tents or vehicles for storage.

No, if you want to save items you'll need a camping tent or a vehicle with storage space.

Then you will need to note down the server this was on, as camping tents and vehicles are only saved server-side.

Also, make sure you hide it well.
