jprime84 22 Posted January 14, 2014 I spent the first 15 minutes fiddling with keybindings and graphics. Once I started out, I headed into the town I spawned by looking for water as I was already thirsty. I should have taken the dead bodies wearing the same noob things I had on as a warning. Within 10 minutes I was on my knees with my flashlight with 3 armed players badgering me and eventually executing me. Good game guys. I respawned on another server, and was able to find food, water, a knit hat, and a sweatshirt and hunting pants that held a little more. Perhaps the best prize I found was a box of sugary cereal inside of a pig farm or cow dairy or something. I'll take it. I see in the server browser there are PVE servers and NO BANDITS and whatnot. I actually dont want that, but I also dont want to be killed by sociopaths while the only thing on my person is a flashlight with no batteries. Any recommendations on more moderate places to play?
Gugolas 228 Posted January 14, 2014 Get off the coast (almost everybody spawns and hunts there...) with some supplies and stay away from military bases to avoid hostile contacts. You will need a map: Google it and use the Dayzb map, it works fine. But remember, no place is really safe in dayz, that is even more true now that you can't hunt yet and survive in the woods.Ah, last thing: "only PVE servers" do not exist. If someone wants to, he can still kill you there, it's just a name given to the server to attract people ;)
okami (DayZ) 129 Posted January 14, 2014 (edited) There are no PVE or no bandit servers at the moment, there is no way for server admins to enforce this. So they just have the ability to put that into the desciption and guess what happens? Every bandit (actually not bandit but player killer) hops on to these servers to find some noobs to kill. At the moment i play on medium populated servers (eu) and my experiences so far were great, 1 out of 10 players i meet are hostile which is not even remotely close to the kill on sight mentality we had in the mod. You mights want to stay away from the coast towns (though berezino works fine for me atm), the military areas and the main routes to these areas and be careful when you see other players. Other than that, be patient and prepare to be frustrated, a lot ;) edit: what gugolas said ;) Edited January 14, 2014 by okami
jprime84 22 Posted January 14, 2014 I did find a map in game. I have yet to work out where I am on it. The coast was not immediately visible where I spawned. I found a sign in town with names and pointing in directions but I just didnt have time to work it out yet. Im trying to avoid using the interweb to make it easier, as that doesnt seem in the spirit of the game. Well aware of what you say by PVE. I can understand holding up players with something of value, I just dont get the excitement of killing new spawns. Apparently some people do like that. Timmymachine109 (DayZ) 235 Posted January 14, 2014 A good idea for new players or players who want less pew pew is to play on lower/medium populated servers. Less chance of you running into a person who will kill you! Also, head north!
Awruk 216 Posted January 14, 2014 I'm going to surprise you, this game requires common sense to play. I'm not kidding! If you are looking for more moderate places to play then where do you think would that be? 40 player server filled to the brim? You better think again, mojambo. I do want to encounter players once in a while. That seems like a huge part of the game. I guess I was hoping for at least some fun RP and interaction. Not just told to kneel and get shot. monolith1985 109 Posted January 14, 2014 depends on the people you run into, also best to avoid most people, unless they unarmed, and not in a groupalso sneak around and get yourself a decent weapon so you can deal with people if they arnt friendly, also a punch or 2 will knock anyone out

DKR 104 Posted January 14, 2014 If I spawn in with the aim to survive as long as possible...I head inland. Get away from the coast. Period.
PiLLZ 55 Posted January 14, 2014 gear up in empty servers, then go to full servers to meet ppl, there are 4 map pieces, most maps are found at gas stations, get an axe, only mele weapon that can kill Z's, look for a compass, airfield has weapons but is also a hot zone for bandits. avoid ppl at first as they tend to shoot on sight and dont care what gear you have or if you're a noob, this game is brutal like that but its also why its so much fun. Keep your head up and have fun.
