Can't play after trying to play with someone on other continent.

So a few weeks ago, my friend who lives in Australia started playing DayZ. I tried joining his game, but I couldn't connect. I then tried to direct connect via the ip he supplied me with. I still could not connect. Now I get that problem on any server I join. My game gets stuck on 'Please Wait...' and I can't play. I've tried joining my friend's session (we live close to each other and have played together many times) and it still didn't work. Anyone have any ideas?
