Ruined ammo, canned foods, drinks and clothing.

How does it work? I can eat ruined canned food and its reducing my hunger.

I can drink ruined soda and its reducing my thirst.

I can load ruined ammo in to my clips(clips are not ruined) and I can shoot. Not sure about damage it will do, but it works.

So I am comfused. I use to throw out everything that is ruineined, but should I ? I mean if I can still use stuf, why not then?

Only one thing that item quality affects, is weapon attachments.

For now, a zombie can only ruin your helmet and your glasses if they hit you. If that a player that kill you (no matter the weapon used), everything will be ruined except the helmet and the glasses. I can only suppose that the "ruined" system is not working properly and will be fixed in time.

Maybe a lot of ruined items are not really ruined and only have the tags.

Not exactly what I am asking... I am saying that I can eat/use ruined stuff and looks like it works like new, exept attachments for weapons. Its ok with food because damaged can can still contain perfectly preserved food. But ammo? And how does it gets damaged in the first place? I am not blown with nuclear bomb. Someone shot me in the chest and ammo got ruined that was in my pants. Looks like they are trying to concentrate on silly things firts instead of game stability.

I don't think that it is clear at this point, but I believe that ruined objects have their effects degrade - and if not now, they will in future updates. Ruined food is more likely to get you sick, ruined ammo - maybe less damage, maybe less accurate, ruined clothes/helmets don't protect you as much, etc.

 

Ruined gun attachments have been anecdotally shown to effect accuracy. Certainly you can't see very well through a ruined sight or scope.

 

I have a ruined can opener that works as well as a pristine one. I'd imagine that ruined can openers in the future would either not work, or work like using knives/screw drivers/axes to open cans - where you lose some of the food inside. All of this is just guesswork, though.

 

Edit: Ruined ammo increasing the possibility of a misfire would be pretty cool.

The factor Pristine, Worn, Damaged, Badly Damaged, Ruined does not work at the moment my friend. I use a m4 with badly damaged parts and it has the same accuracy with a pristine one. A damaged butt stock does not affect the damage of the gun at all, in fact it only should affect the aiming and the trajectory of the shot nothing else.

 

To the topic of ruined ammo... well you might nor realized it, but if you put the ruined ammo into the clip and then empty the clip then you will realize that the ruined ammo turns into pristine ammo back... so the game engine still is not able to distinct between the damage factors...

 

in fact, if you use the long range scope for the mosin, you  will realise that the picture does not change at all even if the scope is badly damaged or pristine... you get the same view trough that scope... but its not the same with m4 scopes for example.

 

So being in alpha release I think there are tons of things to work on... and therefore dont bother it all for the moment.

You cannot put on ruined clothes if they are on a body, though if clothes become ruined, they don't fall off you and they still allow you to carry some items!

The only things that get effectively "ruined/damaged" are: 

-Weapons (though they lack a status, the will eventually not fire when ruined)
-Sight mods (as the graphical effect impedes usefulness)
-Magazines (will not longer load into weapon)
-Protective gear (ceases to protect as well)

everything else is pretty much a place holder status with stat effects.
