I think the word worn is the problem here. I can understand an old rusty knife looking worn, or an axe. But a banana - it implies that the fruit has already been used and worn out.

 

For something. I mean, fruit doesn't get worn - it either rots or you eat it.

It's a good banana...that's seen better days.

Or it literally means it was 'worn' like clothing...which boggles/disturbs the mind a little

It is rather strange, however it could have been handled and never eaten, meaning that the skin is weak and easily broken
