First Person Visible Hats

Recommended Posts

I dunno if this has been suggested before.

It would be extremely cool if you could see the hat you are wearing when in First Person.

A baseball cap should have its brim visible across the top of the screen, and the brim (an actual 3D model) should block the sunlight.

Its annoying to be facing a guy with the sun at his back and being barely able to see despite my hat and sunnies.  Sunnies are coming apparently but I didn't see anything about hats.

Not sure but I think that would require remodeling all the current character models for all the current and future hats, helmets and such.

Unless it had a real function they would be interested seriously in implementing like sun blockage while cool, I don't see it happening.

i think that would work actually, you cant see it because the camera is clipping planes that are within a certain distance from the view, so your view doesnt clip inside your character. Only if they could change that so where is doesnt clip your hat or something. i dunno.

It would in all likelihood require each hat to have a separate FP model to be used for this purpose.

Another way to add to the realism and additional gameplay mechanics through loot

So you want a separate set of controls for "eye look" i.e. Looking around without moving your head as in actual peripheral vision which would allow you to crane your eyes upward and see...the brim of your hat.

That seems like it would be a pretty wasted mechanic with an incredibly low payout.

apparently you have either never worn a baseball cap, or at least never worn one the right way.

When you have one on, the brim of the cap is ALWAYS visible in your view.  And not surprisingly if the sun above about 30 degrees in the sky, that brim blocks the sun so you cant see it.

You don't have to look up or anything.......

Picture a scene.  You are facing one guy down a street.  It is about 4pm in the afternoon and the sun is low in the sky and sitting above your enemy.    in all the ARMA engine glory because the sun is on the screen HDR kicks in and everything gets dark, glare washes everything out and seeing your enemy is quite difficult.   If you were wearing a baseball cap in this situation, the brim would block the sun from your eyes  making things much easier to see. HDR wouldn't kick into overdrive because the sun is hidden behind the cap

i like it , not all caps or helmets would be visible .

thought there was some discussion on this in a dev vid as far as obstructing vision with some helmets & masks , if that is the case ball caps would not be that far off & a good addition .

wouldnt it be the same as the glove models ? concerning the ball caps & helmets .

vision in gas masks & masks in general might be more of an undertaking , not to mention changing the sound of characters breath & hearing in some helmets .

would definitely add to the emersion tho .

some one also suggested the glasses working but id stay away from that as there is such a thing as overkill !
