Laser Pointer

So, first of all, i'm not talking about military laser designators for LGB's. This is about common laser pointers which can be bought everywhere for $1.99.

 

 

Purpose:

Zed's react to laser point like cats. I'm sure everone saw videos of cats chasing a laser dot. Same principle. This way you could lead Zed's away from a object you want to loot...or towards another survivor. Maybe a random chance that a Zed figures out that he got tricked and traces the beam back to the source.

Also the laser beam being well visible during night time.

 

I'm sure people will have other use ingame aswell.

Doubt a Zombie would react to a tiny red dot like a cat does. I mean, i can waltz straight up to one and shoot it point blank with a 357 and all they do is go "ARR" when they get hit.

What zombie lore supports this? Cats chase laser pointers because they chase everything (small) that moves. Zombies, on the other hand, do not give chase to things like rabbits and birds. Zombies chase *humans*.

 

Seriously, if there's a single thing about laser pointers written by a noted author of Zombie Fiction, I'd like to see it.

Although I agree, perhaps having Zombies react to this would be silly.. 

 

That being said.. being able to use a lazer pointer for mind games.. Cool. Especially if weapons eventually get "visible" lazer sights.

Something that makes sounds would be better I think for distracting zombies. Back in the 90's, my stepmother used to sell these prototype personal alarms that you would would wear. If someone tried to rob you or kidnap you, you'd pull the pin (Looked like a grenade pin) that was attached to a small box on your belt. It would make this high pitched, gawdsawful sound that with certain later types could be painful to even be around. These could be be set up in abandoned buildings or thrown like a sonic grenade, used to draw large groups of zeds away from an area or even to an area you want to keep players away from. Naturally they would probably one use in the game, or more likely you could repair one if you keep the pin and found a new battery.

Would real Zombies react to laserpointers? Don't know but i will immediately start some experiments as soon i found a few Zed's to experiment with. Seriously, it's a game, it's fictional, Zed's can be however we want them to be. I just think this thing could lead to interesting (read: silly) situations. I don't think it would hurt to have them.

 

As for Zed's reacting to the dot: of course the dot would have to be right in front of them, not more than 2-3 meters away. And probably they shouldn't chase the dot like cats do but it will catch their interest and if it moves, they will follow it out of curiosity (movement = food in a Zed's brain).
