Zeet. 101 Posted January 10, 2014 Those who combat log are missing both "the real enjoyment and the point" of playing dayz. Its not about killing or being killed. Its the enjoyment/rush/heart stopping monents brought on by firing or hearing the first shot from a Mosin/M4, knowing that any mistake made could mean the past 4-5 hours of hard graft could be wiped out in an instant. Its about getting the kill without being killed, its about hearing that shot being fired at you and either killing your attacker or evading them like a pro. So i feel sorry to those who's first thought is to hit alt-f4, as they wasted £20 on a game that is clearly not for them and soon enough they wont be playing as fixes are put in place. So i guess you can enjoy it while it lasts, as it will be the many of us who know how to play fairly that will be enjoying ourselves in the long run. This game is great, I'm sure many will still stay despite stating otherwise. Do you guys think, if there was a timer, we should be allowed to have a weapon in our hand for protection? And the moment we shoot the timer stops, or the moment we take out a weapon the timer stops?
whothehellishe 81 Posted January 10, 2014 tbh a simple timer with no features at all is just fine for me. next update?!? :P
Mcleane 24 Posted January 10, 2014 Thirty seconds is a good amount of time to discourage combat logging I believe, but I voted for 30+ and wouldn't mind it being a bit more just to discourage it further.
RosscoMac 75 Posted January 10, 2014 30 seconds for me. It was like that the last time I played the mod whatever server it was on and it worked perfect for me. Along with not being able to log out while in combat.

Could work just as well for DayZ albeit a simple system. Edited January 10, 2014 by Zeet.
chris90 54 Posted January 10, 2014 i really wonder why they dont hotfix this... there are so many things that they could instant fix for better and more fun gameplayfor example the bug with the disappearing bodies, rocket said one day later that they fixed that issue - took about 2 weeks to patch it in.
Insaneo 65 Posted January 10, 2014 (edited) i think it should be like this: If you hit "exit" then you can no longer move your body (so make sure you are already crouched or prone), but you can turn your head (so you can keep an eye out) and get to the inventory screen (for some last minute management). and this should also lower but not un-equip your weapon. and you can hit "esc" to cancel this. If you exit the game any other way then your body should remain bolt upright in game for the alloted 30 seconds. EDIT: Also those who disconnect via alt-f4 and the like should have a big burning sun symbol placed above there character and a message be auto typed in direct chat saying "im a combat loger please kill me" every 5 seconds. AllDayZSimon 75 Posted January 10, 2014 Thing is if you implement a timer, it will be gone around with Alt-F4 or task manager anyways. And if you implement something such as "If your character leaves before the 30 seconds it's deleted" - Chances are it'd apply to server restarts and connection failures aswell. If you disconnect somehow without waiting for log out timer, you will spawn your character dummy (that can be killed) for some time. Like in mmoprg's. People are discussing if you leave before the timer runs out, your character will still be standing idle in game for the remainder of the timer. Regardless how you quit, shutting power off, task manager, ext. This gives people who catch combat loggers a chance to get rewarded for their efforts. Instead of a scurd bambi who doesn't want to lose his fireaxe and waterbottle.

Like in mmoprg's. This already happens unintentionally to some people. My friend had his router die the other night, his character stayed ingame until he came back - Didn't even despawn when he logged in. Five minutes of his character staring off into the distance and he just starts turning/looking about. Edit: But on a side note, why are you even engaging "That Scrub with the Fireaxe and Water bottle" let alone being angry that you can't loot his gear? Well there is type of bug that prevents instant server hopping, if you hop to a new server too quickly before the game cache can save your progress, you will spawn in the new server with nothing and have to restart. We need more moral glitches. Lmaoooo.

Mcleane 24 Posted January 10, 2014 Im 22 years old. Im up getting ready for work. Nice try tho kidI just think its extremely funny that you kids need a 30 second log out timer.Next its going to be if you get into a gun fight you enter the thunderdome and no one is allowed to leave till someone dYou might be an adult You might be an adult but you sure act immature anyone who needs to prop there maturity up with an age is laughable, people judge you on what you say and do and going by what you say it's not hard to come to the conclusion that your rather immature. deebz1234 243 Posted January 10, 2014 no need for logout timer, just leave your body there temporarily for 20 sec or so... that way combat loggers get killed/looted. also slap in a timer for changing servers...even 4-5 minutes will suffice and curb server hopping. should have been implemented on day 1, also stand to reason to help server loads... If im logging out legit then i would rather an in game timer, so if something haappens i can take control and avoid it hopefully, rather than leave behind a body that someone can rape without my knowledge. KeyaKev 12 Posted January 10, 2014 (edited) 15 is the maximum I would take too. You kids who voted for 30/30+ will be the first ones to cry when someone runs from elektro in-town fire station and pops you in the head whilst dcing in school. I would rather a system where you have to be in the one server for ~15 minutes before disconnection is allowed. Edited January 10, 2014 by KeyaKev
vladiman 25 Posted January 10, 2014 1 minute log off timer please, people log off in high traffic areas way too easily. Any combat or bullets landing in a certain radius should extend that timer as well. Unless you're on a coastal city or any other highly populated areas this won't be a problem for most people. I have spent hours without seeing a single person and some people here are acting like they will be killed instantly while logging off. Go in the woods to log off, like I already do, if you're all so scared of losing your stuff.
omgwtfbbq (DayZ) 1069 Posted January 11, 2014 Hey I'm getting deja-vu on this thread. Only because there are multiple threads about this same topic, including my own. Search the forums before posting, people. Anyway, it should be 10 seconds, and any other players that point their reticle at the person logging out should get a message saying "Player is logging off in 6...5...4...etc"
