Killed player X (friendly fire)

So I went to NWAF with a cz550 and came across a sniper with a lovely rifle I wanted... I waited for my shot and took it, hitting him from 400m he went down and said ky-ky was killed by reale (friendly fire) in the bottom left where it says people died...

I was supprised it said this at it is usually just player was killed...

as I then approached the tower he was at, he sprung up and shot me in the face and turns out I hadnt killed him?! and he was still on the top of the server list (uk_22)...

how is this possible that I got the shot, the message but not the kill?
