Some ideas regarding currency as food and cannibalism

Recommended Posts

O.K. so i've been reading the Dayz forums and the Reddit forums and i've noticed a lot of fuss about Cannibalism. Let me just sya this... Love the idea. The only true flaw I see in adding it in is, isnt there already enough food in the game? I mean like when ever someone sees rotten fruit they dont pick it up, why would they eat someone? It will lack the tough decision making that resorts people to cannibalism.

I was also reading another topic regarding a perk system and reward system by my friend Slyguy. He suggested that you should be rewarded for not just killing people or the ammount of time you survived, but for the amount of food you have in your inventory. If there is less food it will be worth more to the player than just going out and killing people. Food could also turn into a form of currency without the game. This would add a new dynamic of trading the game. Players could set up theyre own player towns with a player market that people would have to defend from incoming bandits. I think this would be a succeful transition considering that we have seen a similar dynamic in the Dayz mod Epoch.

incorperating these ideas together could prove to be a fresh and exiting outlook on survival gaming.

I don't think cannibalism belongs in this game.

You'd have to be pretty batshit insane to eat someone in a real apocalypse. Just look at chapter 2 of The Walking Dead (Steam game)

hahaha na this idea is more for a fallout kinda Apocalypse but it would  be interesting to stumble into a group of bandits munching on people gives it a whole new prospective but at the same time i think alot of people would find cannibalism highly disturbing and would put them off   :(

Ok, how about this. After you eat someone you can only continue eating character flesh or die of hunger. So no more beans for you but you gotta hunt people to survive.

Also, Would this feature be more disgusting than the planned taking crap and pissing ones? Because they're coming to Dayz whether u like it or not.

It would be neat for role playing purposes, but I imagine it could be too easy if it isn't given any serious downsides. There was actually a post about corpse decay on reddit that got me thinking about cannibalism in the first place, and I thought that would help make it kind of challenging. With corpse decay, scavenging on those who are already dead wouldn't be a reliable tactic and the player would be forced to hunt living players/animals, ghost bandits (play as a semi-pacifist and eat their kills lol), or actually be a bandit.

Upsides

  • Abundance of food
  • Lower or maybe no chance of getting sick from eating raw meat
  • Amount of food in a human steak could be higher than canned goods and maybe even animal cuts

Downsides

  • Negative health status (maybe slower health regen or lower health/blood levels attributed to disease or lack of nutrients)
  • Sickness/vomiting when eating anything other than flesh (animal or human)
  • Sickness/vomiting after first eating human flesh. If human flesh is consumed a second time, you cannot go back to processed foods, fruits, and vegetables
