Sleeping, resting, energy, pet

Recommended Posts

Hello i have suggestion for the game. What do you think about adding sleeping, energy, resting?

Example: You are with your friend surviving. After some time walking and running, your energy is going down, to regain that energy you must eat, or drink, or sleep. Sleeping is important, like in real life, after some time of walking you get tired and character requires sleep. Since you are with your friend, you can guard each other. When one sleeps, other guards, that all goes till both of you are rested. I think that would make this game more interesting, more close to real life, and one more addition that I would like to see is pets, and animals to hunt and eat.

Thank you, I hope you see this message and consider it.

So I’m supposed to look at a black screen for 10, 20, 30 minutes or more each time I play, just to simulate sleep? I’m all for realism in DayZ but that is taking things way too far, and would be close to a game killer.

Stamina should be implemented though so you can’t run and sprint forever.

That would make DayZ more than boring... I would stop playing if I had to stare at a black screen just once in a while...

I'm inclined to agree. Not much fun looking at a blank screen, or being restricted to watching your buddy, watching his black screen.

Realism is good and I'm all for it, but it can go too far. Guess that's why there's no toilet breaks in it either.

Would be funny to see:

"I'm hungry"

"I need a dump"

But I don't think that's needed either.

A sleep/tiredness mechanic? Sounds great, but bollocks to doing it 'live' whilst you're logged in. A far better method of doing it would be to make your character sleep before logging off, with the location/situation you sleep in affecting your 'Tiredness' next time you log in. Preventing people from logging out without first making their character sleep would also be a nice way to get around the combat logging/ghosting problem without setting arbitrary time limits on how often someone can log into servers; the 'going to sleep' animation could take 20 seconds to play out (i.e. prepare the sleeping area, lie down and assume a sleeping position) before logging out, meaning that you'd have to find a safe spot where you're not being shot at to put your character to sleep. Absolutely not practical in the middle of a firefight.

How tired you are when you log back in would depend on how you're sleeping (see below) and the time you spend logged out of the servers. That way, losing connection for five minutes doesn't result in your character being instantly exhausted, because that's daft and annoying. Instead, you should be logged out for <insert suitable time frame> before the tiredness of your character is affected. Additionally, how tired your character is could affect things such as stamina, shooting accuracy, resistance to illness etc. Tiredness would be something else to consider along with hunger and thirst and stimulants, such as energy drinks/certain drugs, could give you a quick but small decrease to your tiredness level.

Sleep Types and how they affect tiredness

Sleep in a bed in a house = Rested

Sleep in a tent/sleeping bag = Tired

Sleep rough (i.e Outdoors without a tent or bedding) = Exhausted

energy is already in the game, though not how it will be in the final game.

but yeah i agree with sleeping being far too annoying and a deal breaker for a lot of people. stamina system(which i'm sure they're looking into/working on) would indeed be much better and you'd actually have to use the sit down animation.

Yea, something like that i had a picture in my mind. That's pretty good explaination. I didn't think to sleep for 30 minutes and black screen, more I thought before you log off you find safe place where you can sleep, then you go to sleep or play some other games, and in a few hours when you log in again you will wake up. That types of sleep you listed are great. Example: Many of you played wow, and when you log off in a city, and you come back after few hours you are rested and you get bonus XP. But here you can as he listed find a house and sleep in bed which will be more comfortable for your character than sleeping on bench or on a ground in tent, so you are more rested.

What do you guys think about pet (dog)? Would it be great if you have companion by you when you sleep to guard you instead of your teammate? Example for pet: You find a house, nice bed, but you don't feel safe. If you have a pet by yourself, you will feel a lot safer to sleep in that bed. Am i right? What do you think?
