7 Hours of fix's and tweaks and it just doesnt work

Recommended Posts

Hi,

After seeing several intersting youtube videos I eagerly pucharsed Arma 2 CO on steam leaving it to download over night. I awoke this morning like a child on Christmas. Arma 2 CO runs fine getting better FPS than I thought with all the settings cranked up. Then I installed the beta patch and six updater which i used to install DayZ....

Steam says I've played a total of 58 minutes of Arma 2 Today and half of that must have been Arma tutorials as I've never played the game before.

The bottom line is when I log onto a server with a ping of 16 - 30 the game lags and freezes every 5 - 10 seconds and fraps is showing 7-10 fps down from 40-60 in Arma 2 CO.

I've read the various forum posts of optimisations including reg tweaks, hyper threading and tried various resolutions and graphics settings the result 7-10 fps with freezes every 5 -10 seconds.

Don't get me wrong despite been extremely disappointed and £25 out of pocked I do appreciate as TotalBiscut says Alpha is Alpha and your experience may vary but to not be able to play the game at all is kinda pushing it.

Does anyone have any idea when these issues are going to be addressed or when the next patch is due?

You tried the Ramdisc Fix? that's what worked for me.

Also, you paided £25 for Arma, not for Dayz which is free. That's like moaning you spent £12,000 on a car and the air freshener the put in it was no good.

beta and xx825(original patch) giving same performance at my pc.

first of all dont expect to max out every single detail on graphics settings. Believe me there are players can't max it out with gtx680..im not sure if its their fault tho maybe some other users can max out. but game engine seems a little bugged. It just cant handle, no matter what gpu or cpu you have.

I used six updater at early stages but it consumes a lot resources so I uninstalled it after learning folder structure of armaII. updating manually now.

what you need to do is play around with settings. both GPU driver settings and game. If you have ati-amd card, I suggest you to setting mipmap detail from "very high" to "high" (or normal) @ driver settings. Set catalyst AI (texture filtering quality) to "performance"

you can use playclaw or msi after burner overlay to see your GPU and CPU utilization while ingame. play around with the game settings, start from normal overall preset, set your resolution and run benchmark01. see which settings hits gpu - cpu and try setting them properly. Im getting 54fps @ benchmark01 and min fps while playing dayZ is around 40.

You can find sweet spot for settings and enjoy playing without lag. gonna take few benchmarks and time but worth it.

also AToC (if you google it) takes most of the performance. you can set ATOC between 0-7 and see how its effect performance.

Thanks for the reply. Actually I hadnt and Ramdisc has solved the freeze problem so thank you. Guess 10,000 RPM sata drives too slow for DayZ. It hasnt resolved the low FPS issue though.

I don't totally agree with your analogy. I bought ARMA 2 CO just to play DayZ. Mil Sim games just don't interest me so I am £25 out of pocket. Its more like buying a house and finding you have lousy neighbours not the houses fault but you still regret buying it.

Fortunately unlike houses if its still not working in a week I can just get a refund and have learnt a valuable lesson not to buy a game to play an interesting mod thats still in alpha.

Thanks for the reply. I'd be happy to play the game at a reasonable resolution with all the setting off or on low if i could get 30fps+. Playing a computer game for the graphics is like watching porn for the story.

I've played around with various settings in game and in Catalyst but nothing improves the FPS. ARMA 2 CO runs fine but DayZ just dies.

Also I installed playclaw but when trying to run it after I installed it AVG popped up and removed it as a virus.
