New Crossfire Issue

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

I have come here cause I am trying to figure out this problem with my crossfire setup, Hopefully you guys can help!

So lemme start of by saying I have seen the posts here about CF on this forum and a few other places and I have done all those but I'm still having some trouble getting it to work because I believe my problem lies elsewhere. Also I know Dayz isn't really supporting CF or SLI atm but I can see a few people have got it to work.

So on to the problem, Couple weeks ago I found my 5970 was running very slow and just couldn't figure out why. I then found out while gaming only 1 GPU would turn on and though that it may have been broken. After a couples of days of research and fixes I came to discover that the problem was that CF didn't work in Windowed Mode. After that I put all my games back to full screen and BAM 2nd GPU turns on and card is running smooth again.

Then I bought Dayz couple weeks later and noticed the card was running slow again. Check Afterburner and It's the exact same problem, Only one GPU was working and I figured it was a CF support Issue so I hit the forums to find a fix. I found this post which said that if I where to change my CF profile for Dayz to AOW2 or AFR ( Alternate Frame Relay ) That the second GPU should turn back on. Now in AFR mode the 2nd GPU would turn on but my game was gltichy and it would cause the screen to flicker constantly. WIth the AOW2 Profile the 2nd GPU wouldn't turn at all.

Then I noticed something... In game I noticed that I could move my mouse to my second screen like there was no border, Almost seems like its stuck in a fullscreen windowed mode if that makes sense. Usually in other games I can't leave my main screen with my mouse unless I minimize the game first. So what I think my problem is that my card thinks Dayz is running in Windowed mode and won't turn on the 2nd GPU.

Not sure if this makes sense or if anyone else noticed this but I have a feeling this is the problem. I don't know if there a setting or an edit I can do to make it a Bordered Fullscreen.

Any tips or Help is GREATLY appreciated, I love the game and want to experience it to the fullest which is why I'm trying so hard to get this to work. Also Sorry for the long post but I figured I'd try to get as much info in so you could understand what I was talking about.

Thanks guys!

does make sense actually.

I'm no expert, but have you tried running dayZ in windowed mode, then swich back to full screen? and how does A3/A2 run for you?

Best of luck,

Weparo

Yup, I have tried that. Doesn't work unfortunately :(

Back when I was playing the Dayz Mod I never noticed this issue. Then again, back then I didn't know that CF didn't work in Windowed mode but the game did run smoother than the Standalone does now. It was probably optimized better but I wouldn't be able to tell you if I had the same problem. I know the Standalone still has a lot of issues but trying to run it on 1 GPU is just horrendous.

Never played A3 so I can't say anything about that.

Thanks for the tip!
