About the Protector Case

I don't think its actually there to protect your gear, more that it has 6 or 8 spots to hold items but only takes up 4 in your inventory. Same as ammo boxes and medic packs

Doesn't protect anything. if you get it in pristine condition and you get shot - its still ruined - but as with any other containter, the content is in the condition it was. 

 

Kinda sad, that ruined status doesn't destroy item.
