Roshi (DayZ) 397 Posted January 22, 2014 (edited) Some other ideas for thermal regulation:- hot food and drinks should warm core temperature which would be useful in hypothermia or near hypothermia. - proximity to a fire should (slowly) warm your character, and dry clothing and gear.- Wet clothes should enhance heat loss via convection and evaporation (looks like this might be implemented from the item descriptions).- shivering should stop after a certain critical (low) core temperature is reached. Similarly, with hyperthermia (too hot), sweating should stop after a critical temperature. After these points, you are in serious trouble as your main physiological coping strategies fail.-heavy clothing should inhibit heat loss by sweating. - should be able to layer clothing, find thermal undergarments, and craft ad hoc clothing to protect you from the environment. Should need to keep a couple of additional clothing items in your pack for various weather conditions. - failing to protect yourself from adverse weather should have serious (possibly fatal) consequences - the three things you should be scared of in DayZ (in equal measure) are other players, zombies and the environment (but not doors or ladders). badman85@gmail.com 14 Posted January 23, 2014 very nice , most all my ideas but articulated in a much more professional manner . atm i am terrified by ladders x) dont forget , damaged clothing might retain less heat & rain gear repel less rain , making night time fighting in colder climates even more risky . obviously Chernarus is not an attic climate but i would think the cost & northern regain would be colder than most other areas , as well as mouton tops . incidentally i was trying to relate all this to sickness & shelter . i should look more at contagion as i just came down with a nasty bug .. ironys a bitch .day 0 was visiting my cousin that had supposedly just got over a cold , he started to show new symptoms towards the end of our visit .day 1 back to work ( grave yard ) 35 degree or less , with little to no movement ( warehouse inventory ) slight cough by the end of the day . ( evening of my last post )day 2 morning : extreme body aches , bones ache . no sniffling , intermittent coughing , situation awareness & reaction time dramatically lowered . 24 hour bed rest warped in blankets 0% appetite 0% thirst , force eat & drink worm food & tea . day 3 today : miner body aches , appetite is returning , awareness returned . still feel about 75% seams bed rest , staying worm , hot foods & drinks are doing the trick , with out medical consultation or over the counter medication . i did take zinc & vC . i have not been sick in a long time & not this sick in years , also dont get the flu shot ! haha anyway just thought id share ! Bohannan (DayZ) 235 Posted January 23, 2014 I like the ideas behind this and its accuracy but lets be honest, its way to advanced for a game like this. I like having a medical system but I also like keeping it simple. All of that ACLS protocol and crap can stay at work! When I come home and load up DayZ the last thing I want to do is run critical care algorithms. I do think the medical system in DayZ needs some work, but I do want to keep it simple. Nice write up though.
Window Licker 504 Posted January 23, 2014 Actually I came expecting a half cocked idea puked out of the mind of someone wanting the game to be easier. Pouring Bean's for a tidy and well thought out idea, I really like it hope dev's take notice something like this would give reason to be raiding hospitals procuring medical supplies add in the medic hard hats that someone suggested a while ago. Good times hold still I'm just gonna check you with my Sphygmomanometer
badman85@gmail.com 14 Posted January 23, 2014 hay Roshi interestingly in regards to hypothermia & or camping . http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/1vwby6/recap_of_rockets_ama_filtered_for_only_dayz/ 3rd header under Endgame .We have a plan for camping. Playing that mod for Skyrim (survival mod, forget its name) is GREAT inspiration and I hope we can do everything it has.the mods name is Frostfall , consequently it plays heavily on warmth & dryness , but not on clothing degradation as DayZ would . Vit C and zinc probably waste of time. Comes round on a roughly 8 year cycle as I understand it (as the virus mutates enough to get past your adaptive immune system) - most people forget when they last had it. But don't listen to me. KarmaCoin 72 Posted March 3, 2014 Might as well automate the whole thing and take any player control out of the equation. -1 from me for this one as well. Right, because I prefer my video games to play themselves. Why not automate all of DayZ that way you can just watch instead of playing? Its a game not a movie and I want to play it. Adding this type of control over medical application would add serious immersion and value to the game. I love this idea and hope something like it finds it's way into production.

pacific_coast 632 Posted March 17, 2014 props for your creativity OP - this would be great as a mod for hardcore players, but i would NOT want something this over the top in the vanilla build. the devs are taking the medical system wayyyyyy too far as it is. still, props! Calvin Candie 189 Posted July 26, 2014 @ RoshiI love this idea man. It is exactly what is missing to be a full medic out there. Good work.
Mukaparska 55 Posted July 26, 2014 sounds nice, but why not have this same view on inventory screen when you're looting someone? It would be a lot more handy.
