Just the simple tactics, watch everywhere, keep an eye out on zeds, watch for signs that indicate players eg; Loot having been taken, trampled grass(yes, if people prone its a sign[graphics dependant]), no zombies, hording zombies, dead zombies, and so on.

First of all, you need to get a decent gear atleast, I'd recommend trying to kill someone with NVG or trying to get them yourselves, it's really fun hunting at night when you have NVGs. Well, after that, go to the more populated places such as: Berezino, Zelenogorsk, Cherno, Elektro, Balota airstrip, NEAF and NWAF, etc.. and keep your eyes open, be sneaky, you gotta think that you're on your own and anyone can take you out at any moment. Just be careful, you gotta be smart when playing as a bandit, and patient.

Agree.

Sound is HUGE too. One shot might give you a direction, 2-3 and you'll have a good idea of where/range. More for CQB, footsteps, material they're running on.

Height is always your advantage. Bullets have ballistics and trajectory. Bigger guns do well more damage and stay truer longer over range.

Always factor drop/lead.

Unfortunate fact: it's a game. Lag happens, always plan it into your shooting formula.
