Idea for zombies

Recommended Posts

I thought it would be quite interesting to include something in DayZ that is a much stronger version of the regular zombie -

This zombie will be larger in size, it is unable to move faster than walking speed, it takes much more shots to kill and it's attacks are much slower but also a lot stronger than the regular zombies attacks. This zombie should have a higher chance to drop something of interest and will only be found in some military areas

What do you think?

A few people have mentioned this from place to place about having a stronger foe to fight to make things even more interesting, so I thought I'd post what I think would be a balanced version of this.

I would not mind seeing a Tank version of the infected running around occasionally.  The one that makes you say o shit and run the other way even if you have ten guys.

What next? Teleporter Zombie? Spitting Zombies? Flying zombies? Zebra Zombie?

I say no. Let the number of zombie be a problem, not the kind of zombie.

I highly doubt you will end up seeing anything other then the "realistic" zombies. But hopefully you will see them in much higher numbers so that when you see them all coming at you, you will say "oh shit!" and run the other direction.

this, granted some things can be fun, like the zebra zombie, but most people want it to be a survival game, if you like zombie variants L4D2 has a lot of different zombies

I am only suggesting a much much stronger zombie that moves and attacks much slowly with a higher chance of interesting loot upon death, I think a factor of "OH SH** it's one of those zombies!" would be great in DayZ.

Regular zombies are quite human-like

But this one should be some kind of malformation, they would look very large and deformed.

Maybe a zed in military/riotgear that would be slower and more resistant to damage from the body armor would be logical.

I doubt dean would put super zeds on the game

That sounds like a good idea

I sincerely hope they don't do Tank, Charger, Spitter, etc. Dayz is more realistic. But I really like that idea of zeds with body armor and even helmet!

the 'zombies' are not mutated walking dead. They are still living breathing people, they are however 'infected'... :o

Or I like to think of them as just really hung-over grumpy Russians... >:(

The only need a snack, and get really annoyed at loud noise... >:(

They really just need a hug,..

In the MOD you found empty whiskey bottles a lot as trash loot...

This would be better served by a form of "zombie lifecycle"

You would have the "infected"-Much like the current zombies fast aggressive with moderate strength and low chance of infection. (Still alive)

The "Consumed"- Slower than current zombies with signs of life failing, tougher to kill and much stronger with strength coming from what remains of life as well as infection. (Dying)

The "Deceased"- Technically dead and possibly rotting, not all that strong but hard to kill. Moves at an ambling pace at best, extreme chance of infection. You don't want to hit one of these with an axe as blood spray carries high chance of infection, and bullets will take a while. headshots only. Best bet is some sort of fire based weapon. Even when taken down they pose an infection risk unless cremated.

The devs are already doing a lot of stuff . Let's not get them too busy with these ideas , they need to fix the bugs / things not working first . Personally , I'd prefer to stick with the classic zombies . If you give gamers a new type of zombie , they'll start asking for more , like the '' Zebra Zombie '' , etc .

It's nothing like that. I'm not thinking of L4D at all. this is an idea for an additional feature in the future, I personally like the idea, you have to realize the only difference between this zombie and the regulars is it moves slower, attacks slower but deals a lot more damage upon successfully hitting you. It's not a big threat in other words, as long as it doesn't get near you and it's not unrealistic either because it's very possible a zombie could become malformed in some way and become more powerful than the regular zombies or to be wearing something or have something special that makes it stronger, such as the ideas above - zombies in protective clothing.

(This zombie also would be very rare and only found in military areas, too)

Can you imagine if people you killed in this game turns into a zombie? You could have a zombie with stuff on it you can loot if you kill him.

I'm 6'6" and weigh 325lbs. Compared to the average person that would have made up the zombies in Chernarus, if I got turned I would be that 'oh shit' zombie. If I grabbed you, you would be done for and I would imagine that I could take a few more hits than a 5'6" 130 lb zombie. This could be done realistically by just adding a higher damage modifier and more health to a zombie with a larger model. I wouldn't want to see a 'Tank' or the big crazy ones from State of Decay that can blow up a car that runs into them but having different sized zombies would be awesome. I wouldn't make their speed any different as zombies don't seem to care about oxygen levels getting to their muscles and I would assume that most zombies, (those that weren't damaged), would all move at about the same speed.

Next in the awesome category would be child zombies. Not that I want to kill a kid, but how terrifying would it be to have miniature zombies hiding in closets, in bushes or anywhere else for that matter. Way less damage to kill and do less damage and they would be an interesting addition.

Numbers over special zombies any day. It's easier to implement and a horde of 25-50 zombies would scare me shitless anyway. :P

Considering however that the virus is maybe somekind of rabies it would be intresting to have infected dogs and other animals.

Zeds with bodyarmour etc. are confirmed by Rocket if I'm not mistaken.

They won't make this into a L4D, and I'm happy about that. If you want that kind of stuff, this is the wrong gameforum.

Actually, no. Given the performance hit (that's why we have so few zombies now) I'd be easier to have one big scary zombie instead of 50 regulars.

Hmm, you can have infected animals anyway, it's a realistic happening, but it's probably less likely than a stronger type of zombie

I had 5 or 6 zombies notice me, and chase me, at the same time while in Elektro the other night and that by itself was enough to deal with since I play alone.  I also came across a zombie hiding inside a house for the first time. The bastard was behind the open door I went though and scared the crap out of me.  (Both doors were open, so I dont know if  he followed someone else in there or what.)

I think zombie hordes and "hiding" zombies would be more fun than super zombies.  Maybe incorporate zombies who died with armor on, like in the prison on Walking Dead. That way theyre still the same zombies, but maybe take a little more to dispatch.

I wouldn't mind bigger zombies as long as they still go down with a bullet to the brain. Or an axe in the brain for that matter.

But instead of bigger zombies, I would rather like to see hordes/herds of them. Specially in the cities. I know there's a limit now, but with some serious serverwork, I think the Z's could make a real threat. Imagine you're in a city looting, and suddenly you become surrounded by 40 zombies. You need to find an escape route, and be careful you wont get cornered. I'm also hoping that zombies will take more than one shot to kill (unless you hit them in the head). Now you can fire at their legs and they still get dropped.

And will the zombies ever carry loot? I mean they are wearing clothes, so they should be lootable. Is this going to be implemented?
