MORE ZOMBIES!!!

Recommended Posts

I know there are a lot of awesome things in the works to be added. Although I feel the most important thing for everyone right now is MORE ZOMBIES!!! All there is to do right now is looting stuff then killing players, so that's what we do. The only threat in DayZ right now is Bandits. There needs to be much more ZOMBIES and we need them right now. There are over 400k+ players that bought the game, thats alot of people and a lot of money. To hold our attention and keep us playing we need more NPCs to make things interesting and balance coordinated bandit groups.

Prime loot spots need to be swarming with so many zombies that you'd need to cooperate with players to clear it. It would give people a reason not shoot everyone on sight and the loot we get would be rewarding. Looting empty buildings in empty servers can be fixed with MORE ZOMBIES!!!

Say there was a group of 5+ Bandits and just me, if there were swarms of zombies everywhere then shooting would attract many ZOMBIES and distract them enough to even the playing field. I could use the ZOMBIES to get away or maybe even start picking them off, instead of it just being 5v1 in an empty area with no other factor. Like in MMOs where they mix PVE and PVP, the NPCs can balance things and make it fun for both sides even when you're out numbered by players. It would be way more intense and fun.

Also, get the NPCs to stop going through walls and have them spawn inside buldings. It would be more suspenseful if I opened up a door inside a house and there were 3 hungry ZOMBIES in my face. If the military buildings had many ZOMBIES inside them, people wouldn't be logging off and server hopping in or around these spots because they would DIE!

Add much more zombies then work on AI and adding other things to the game, I think most of us would rather the game be too hard right now instead of way too easy. Too easy is boring. Too hard is challenging and rewarding, just what this community needs right now.

Wow, i aint reading that. But to answer your question, it's coming, as is respawning loot. Just wait a few weeks/months and it might be here!

The running through wall thing is frustrating, as is their sixth sense as to where you've gone when you duck their line of sight. I think if you run into a building and shut the door, the zombies should be pounding on the door until they can break through it, The more zombies hitting it, the quicker they get through it. Obviously outside doors are harder than the flimsy internal ones, but it would give the player time to make a game plan, or escape through the back door.

There are a lot of other issue that need to addressed before they start adding more zombies... and the zombies have been scaled back at this point because they are testing the servers to see how many items they can add before things start to really bog down the system. This is alpha, this is testing, this is helping the devs make decisions on overall game play, this release is not meant to be final. Things will change with time, as the warning stated on the Steam page before you bought the game.

Jump on a server that has just been restarted and fire a round in the middle of town... see how many zombies come charging at you then. :)

And personally the least of my concerns at this point are more zombies... I would like to see an end to the random frame stutters, the random zombie sounds and other assorted noises you hear, the often slow response to hotbar functions, etc, etc...

This pretty much sums it up. There's no point in adding more zombies until the AI is fixed.

I'm of the opinion that once zombie AI is improved, a lot of other situations can be solved as well. When zombie AI is fixed, you can have large hordes of zombies. Too many players camping in one area of the map and a lot of noise? AI brings in the hordes on that location. It will solve a lot of problems.

I can't wait for more zombies. As far as clipping, I think that whole "Oh man, walls aren't there" thing form the development is proving difficult to workaround. I haven't found it to be a huge problem but it would be nice to feel safe from zeds while in a structure. I vote for a project zomboid type scenario where once they know you're in there they eventually come in by breaking down doors and windows, they are unrelenting.

I think all of these threads are just superfluous at this point. In reality they are just all part of a larger question, "Where is the game headed?" There's so much possibility now. I can't wait to see what happens this year. I really hope I can board up a house to stave off the dead and create limited entrances for would be attackers.

never played the mod...was a fresh spawn on day one of me buying and though I would be safe inside a house if i shut the door on the outside zombie...NOPE! came in my face. I knew then that they were some type of mutant zombie!

I have done this and you don't get overwhelmed, all you need is an axe and swing a couple times then they are dead. No threat at all.

The Zombies do run through walls yes, but they are still not a threat at all. There isn't enough to overwhelm you and they die very easy.

Well I hate to say it but, its Alpha. Saying they can't add zombies till they fix them is essentially irrelevant. The devs can break the game if they want, they could take all the Zombies away or add way too many... its Alpha. I'm just saying all they need to do is add a few more Zombies in prime loot spots and it would be sooo much more interesting.

From what I understood, a lot of the time spent on them so far has been to completely strip down all the now irrelevant AI from the game engine (since there are no NPCs, just zombies) and design a much more "zombie focused" pathfinding and AI. (as seen here, with Rocket explaining: LINK)

The big part that remains now I think is to restructure the pathing inside buildings, which I think was scratched totally (according to Rocket in his latest stream I think).

The overall goal is to have an ultra optimized zombie AI, and nothing else, which will alleviate server issues when we get increased spawns, since it's all server side.

Done it many o' times. The most I've ever gotten to charge at me was 3... and they all die from 1 bullet so it is actually easier if you do it this way. Then you can loot not having to worry about a zombie popping out of the floor and biting an ankle.

More zombies isnt even close to being the most important thing needed in this game.... its not even in the Top 30 imo.

There are other important things of course but it's a core feature and many other things that will need to be addressed later on will depend on balancing the zombie presence.

Once we start seeing 1000+ zombies up on the map at all times, it suddenly makes finding food/water/ammo/guns much more intense and therefore created a full experience from freshly spawned to veteran survivalist.

To be honest I could care less if we ever get more zombies.  Would probably prefer not getting more lol

So you want your zombie apocalypse....without zombies? That's actually good thinking, but it's much less !FUN :)

No... actually what I want is an open world sandbox with no cookie cutter classes of characters, no exp lvl grinding, no faction warfare or areans, but totally open PvP, PKing, and full looting.

The fact that there are zombies in this game means nothing to me.  Im not a 15 year old boy obsessed with the current love for all things zombie.  The back story could be anything really.

If you like Co-Op killing dumb AI zombies thats cool. I dont think thats much fun at all...   I like killing players.

I see. Well it's all that, but it's not the point. The point is to survive a zombie apocalypse, not to instantly gear up and have a death-match. Hmm, I could be wrong but only thing that comes to mind just now is...wrong game? I'm saying this with all due respect :)

I mean, there WILL be tons of zombies, that's a fact.

It WILL be hell on earth just to survive to find gear, that's also a fact.

If you only want to kill players and loot them, the time/ratio is going to be pretty insane with constant risk of death by pretty much everything on the map, from zombies to players, from disease to dehydration. The map is close to 300km² and even if they can reach a 100 players per server (which I highly doubt), that's a lot of empty space in between.

Now, if you enjoy spending 6 hours "gearing up", then 3 hours waiting for someone to pass by so that you "may" kill him (that doesn't even include looting his corpse, which is another thing entirely!), then great!

Otherwise, I fear each patch from here on will make you cry inside :/

I guess it depends... if each patch gets the standlone closer to the MOD then it will be you crying and me smiling.

And remember this..... the only reason the standalone game exists is because of the popularity of the MOD.  So I think I am pretty safe in assuming the goal is to get this game to a state that resembles the MOD not to create a totally new game.  :P

Hmmm, sorry? :)

Played the mod from May 2012 to October 2012 when Rocket officially left the mod development for standalone and the mod became a community thing. Back then, it was pretty much hardcore zombies everywhere and really can't remember anything that could have potentially fit anything of what you described as liking. I mean, it IS an open sandbox with PVP, full loot and perma-death but there has always been MUCH more to it than just that.

What happened afterwards with the mod is not Rocket's DayZ so I cannot comment much on that.

I never played the mod, but I just have to ask a question.  If the zombies are going to be sparse and meaningless, then why invest development time into them when they could just be dumped completely?

I agree with you on the concept of killing other players.  I'm all for it.  I do feel the idea of dealing with zombies as well makes it a much better game.

I recall rocket saying the zombies need to be a threat in order for players to help each other out, or something to that effect. You can kill each other afterwards with no remorse.

I hope to see lots of them like the mod had, crawling was the only way to get most loot. You really had to take your time to get kit worth having, the NWAF and Balota were dangerous places, not like the current SA build. I feel it is too easy as of now but things will change, get rid of useless items form the tables and add more Zeds, make it an experience to explore with a threat round every corner. I can now lose a zed by running in a straight line, you could not do that with the mod, they chased you till they fed or you outwitted them through buildings or hills.

I only play friendly, I have been eaten shot and betrayed on many occasion. The only thing missing is hoardes of infected at high loot spawn points and maybe loads by roadways and residential places. A few roaming hoarders would be fantastic. It is all early days as of now, who knows what the revs will bring.

I doubt there is a way to make zombies fun as well as a threat to both geared players and new spawns.

Simply adding more of them makes them a much bigger threat.  You either try to melee them all to death, or shoot them.  Shooting them draws more attention from zombies and other players.
