Please improve sound engine

Recommended Posts

Please note: I accidentally posted this in the DayZ Mod forum. This is ment for the DayZ Standalone version!

Hello there,

Purchased DayZ Standalone recently and so far am absolutely loving the game. However one thing I get distracted of a lot is the fact that it is impossible to tell where certain sounds are coming. For example if I hear a scream of a zombie, it is not possible to say where it is coming from, front, back, left or right.

I hope this is something that will be improved upon soon as sounds are extremely important in this game.  Sometimes I want to stop and just listen, and if I would hear footsteps from far away, I should be able to tell which direction are they coming from.

Oh, and hopefully we can use walkie talkies soon to talk to other players in the game :D

Thanks for the really great game!

Sounds will be revamped from the ground up in the future.

What's confirmed/possible regarding sounds

  • Will play a crucial role such as replacing the text indicators with audio indicators (E.G; stomach growling, coughing, vomiting)
  • Different footwear generates different sounds depending on the ground.
  • Current sound placeholders from DayZ Mod will be replaced.
  • Doors opening and closing will create sound.
  • Wind coming from certain directions.
  • Zombies will sound different once improved accordingly(Not touched as of now)

Hopefully as well as making the sounds better, an emphasis will be put on the engine so that the direction and distance where the sound is coming from can be sensed in the DayZ standalone. That is what my main complain was in the first place.. But I'm sure its all in the works :)
