The Extra Clip (or why I love this game)

Recommended Posts

I had been farming the north airfield for a bit on my new character (after the last randomly dissapeared logging in one day), and had a nice M4 (flashlight, RIS handguard, CQB stock, bayonet, and 4 60 round magazines), plus a whole 300 round ammo box full of 60 stacks of 5.56 ammo. I had killed a few people around the airfields, but it was slow going waiting for a fire fight, so I decided to head down to cherno/electro and see if I could stir up some trouble.

The daytime server I was on was full, and so i was a little dissapointed when Cherno was dead, not a soul to be seen so I laced up my military boots and moved on to Electro. Right on the outskirts, I see 2 guys with at least 1 mosin standing around doing the cactus dance. They obviously don't have their weapons up, and I'm rolling in with my 60 rounds of M4 goodness at the ready, so I decide to try and be friendly.

I strike up an inane conversation, and they seem friendly enough. Until I learned a valuable lesson in Dayz: being punched can knock you out pretty damn fast. As I lose consciousness for the first time with my screen completely black, I hear the non-puncher say "c'mon man, that isn't cool, he was being friendly. i don't condone this" and the puncher say "hurry up and get his gun".

When I slowly come to, I notice that my shiny M4 is now in the hands of the non-puncher, I bleeding from MULTIPLE spots, and a quick glance at my invetory shows I have almost nothing left. Except they apparently left me my pistol, but were obviously smart enough to remove the magizine. Hmm, when I righ click it it says I can detach the magazine... before I could act, i'm punched unconscious again. I assume this time they are going to leave me for dead, or just murder me outright.

Nope.

The non-puncher revives me AND gives me a saline bag. As they wake me up for the second time, the non-puncher is trying to tell me he's sorry to steal my stuff but that's the way it is. With my heart beating a million miles a minute, i take a step back, hit the hotkey to pull out my pistol and immedietly drop the guy with my M4 with a hail of bullets. All I hear is a cut-off "WHAT THE" as he is gunned down. I quickly track over to the puncher as he is trying to run away and empty the rest of my clip into his back.

Fearing other people, I quickly find my rifle and get that equipped, and shakily start gathering up the important pieces of gear (tac vest with ammo, ammo box etc, my pristine  hutning scope I found) before retreating to a house quick to take stock. Feeling very lucky, and having recovered everything I start moving into Cherno.

And who do I meet? 2 fresh spawns running in the direction of the corpses. My assumption? The Bandits going back for their gear. I killed them again and camped their corpses for 20 minutes, but no one else showed up.

All I can say is, thank goodness for stupid bandits not checking to see if the pistol was loaded!

I've now learned from this incident to be shoot on sight, even if unarmed, since apparently being punched in the back is pretty effective.

Bummer on the shoot on sight.  This game is so much more exciting when you have encounters like yours above.

I congratulate you on playing it out and not logging!

I agree, it was a harsh lesson, and I'm sure I won't shoot on sight all the time, but I think in Cherno/Electro that will be my MO!

And believe me, the feeling to rage log after I got punched the first time was strong, my thought was if they let me live I might be able to find them and, i dunno, punch them to death? I'm glad it worked out the way it did, lol.
