I cant seem to attach things to my weapon?

I may just be a noob. But I used to have a scope on the weapon, I took it off and now I cant get it back on. 

Do i have to have the gun in a backpack to have items placed on it? do I need to set it on the ground?

I have an optics attachment and a flashlight attachment. Now I can get neither of them onto the weapon.

Ever tried to put screws of a pipe to your laptops ? Doesn't work does it ? Same case ! .........

For the flash light you need the RIS hand guard.

 

Some optics are for the Mosin only and won't fit on the M4.

Is the scope "ruined", if it gets ruined on the gun, I assume it will stay on there, but if you remove it, you wont be able to put it back on, not sure if this is the case, but it's possible.

I have the plastic hand guard, and the scope was ruined when I found it, still allowed me to attach but now that I removed it I cant but it back on?

Dang.. 

So would it be a bug I was able to get the ruined scope on there in the first place?

The light says its a universal light that fits most weapons, and I have an M4
