Fort Construction In later development

Recommended Posts

Well basically considering the games heavy amount of scavenging and the upcoming push on team work and player interaction i thought this might be a step in the right direction. You have to scavenge for parts to make vehicles so why not a fort or base for people to go.

Implementing this type of feature would make team work a good option to take and would also make the game a lot more compelling as you would have bases full of bandit players who look to horde their gear and other bases looking to get as much as they can from collecting.

You could also implement different systems within the base/fort

Such as:

Group storage

Map Room - To plan things as a group - raids etc

Vehicle Bay - To store your constructed vehicle or to build one from scratch

Helicopter Spot- If the helicopters are implemented later on

Gun Posts - Would have to be constructed as well as everything else in the base to add that sense of survival.

Any other implementations which are plausible i will add later maybe if people think this is a good idea.

The best thing about this fort/base is the fact that it all has to be built and constructed by the player and each room or section will need a certain amount of each material to even start to build. This means that the players will have to have a pretty well adapted start to even start constructing a base.

You could also set this so that you can only build bases further out or within certain sections within the map. This would help with new players etc. You could always say you can build any were which would mean the players would have to watch out for these people like you see in films. Good example would be like the film "The Road"

Alternative implementation idea::

(Arma2 already has a commander base construction system within it already. So you could even have it as the commander builds a construction booth and from the menu you build the expansions on the base/fort but you need the right amount of materials which you place within the command booth box.)

----------------------------------------------------------

If you like this idea let me know as i really think it could add a whole new element and playing style to the game which could really work.

Thankyou all...and....Good day.

Good Idea, but I think it'll would be cooler to have actual safe villages made out of scrap with AI, where you can go and buy food, ammo, equipment, and etc. (Like Fallout 3)

No AI-based villages or cities please. I like the fact everything but zombies is PC ran, so should villages, it makes for more varied and interesting interactions because you never know how its going to turn.

I always like the idea of building up towns and bases and am not entirely against NPC towns if it done in a particular fashion but this game would need to be much larger scale for this to work without there being hundreds of bases all over the map.

I like this idea a lot. It forces more player cooperation to gather the required materials and also guard the base. My problem with anything owned in this game however is permanence. Even with three quarters of the server "part" of your city, at one time inevitably everyone's work could be lost in an instant. I understand that Day Z is a realism focused game but I really wish at least with something as big as this semi-permanence is present.

They could add new items, hammer, handsaw, nails/screws etc and make another use for the wood you chop from trees, you could turn them into planks or refined wood at sawmills or something like that, then you can construct your base that way. Or they could just use the commander base construction system. Either way that'd be better than having a tent city.
