Antediluvian 7 Posted December 30, 2013 Since so many features are incorporated with realism in mind, shouldn't incoming bullets affect the health status of various stuff you'd carry? They already have health levels for everything, but they don't seem to change / being repairable for the moment but that's surely gonna happen by the time the game is released. This would also make bandits and people who like to shoot other people, think a bit before pulling the trigger. They're out for your loot, after all, and shooting you might damage the goods. What are your opinions on this particular feature?
AmirDayz 54 Posted December 30, 2013 Dude that feature is already in the game right now. If you get shot with a 7.62 round and somehow magically don't die expect to have 90% of your items 'ruined'. If you get shot with a 5.56 every item in that particular slot (i.e pants/vest/backpack) will be destroyed. I think it's a bit too much really and needs some balance (i.e, how many items can a single bullet pass through really? these are not HE rounds) but I can confirm it's definitely there.
applejaxc 2500 Posted December 30, 2013 (edited) ...yay another newbie that didn't bother to read any of the game announcements or features. Item degradation through use is going to be implemented.Item degradation through damage (being shot, hit, etc) is already in game, although as of right now doesn't have any affect except firearm accuracy.Item condition through environment (damp, wet, soaking wet) is already in game, and can cause you to become sick. Unfortunately simply stepping in a puddle can make your motorcycle helmet soaking wet... not sure what that's about. The entire point of bullets/melee attacks harming equipment is to change bandits from shoot-on-sight to rob-on-sight. Although I just aim for the head... AmirDayz 54 Posted December 30, 2013 Funny thing, given that for the past week it's pretty much impossible to loot people and people still shoot at everyone they see I think it's safe to assume that the "item damage as a deterrent towards KoS tendencies" paradigm has been proven false. As of right now item damage doesn't have a negative effect on most items. I have a ruined backpack and ruined canteen and nothing is different. Down the road these items will not be worth keeping which may cause some people to think twice
serenityrick 218 Posted December 30, 2013 (edited) Funny thing, given that for the past week it's pretty much impossible to loot people and people still shoot at everyone they see I think it's safe to assume that the "item damage as a deterrent towards KoS tendencies" paradigm has been proven false. How can you come to that conclusion? A lot of the item degradation doesn't effect items right now. a "ruined" compass still works. "ruined" bags and pants still hold items perfectly. You can still eat "ruined" food and drink "ruined" water from canteens. People are KoSing right now because that's mostly all there is to do in the game at the moment. EDIT - I cannot say that it will change once everything is implemented and the game goes gold but there is hardly any deterrant from killing people at the moment. Once people start playing the game for real and spray bullets into their victims and find out they couldn't salvage any of their gear because of their reckless abandon, maybe then they'll change their ways. Right now people are just fucking around since, again, not much to do yet. Edited December 30, 2013 by serenityrick
AmirDayz 54 Posted December 30, 2013 It's simple, right now killing people yields zero loot, it even costs you some ammunition which you cannot magically replenish as you could in the mod, therefore the incentive to KoS should be rather low right now yet still everyone does it. In the future you'll get some loot, even if most of it will be damaged, therefore the incentive to KoS will be higher and so it's rather safe to conclude that people will not KoS less if there's more incentive to do so. Isaaq 72 Posted December 30, 2013 (edited) It's already in the game. And it's terrible. When you get shot, the vast majority of your stuff get's ruined. No matter where you got shot. For example, my fried got sniped in the head. A single shot. The members of my group took care of the sniper while I went and salvaged everything from the corpse. Everything was ruined. Stuff in his backpack, his clothes, all of his equipment. Even his guns. The equipment damage system should either only affect stuff that it actually hits (and if it hits the backpack, it randomly selects one or two items inside to damage - not everything) or it should just go. It's absolutely awful at the moment. Sure, the damages don't do much at the moment, but when it actually has an effect on most items, unless its SERIOUSLY nerfed, it's going to be game breaking.
