Changing server sometimes deletes character

I just started getting into the standalone, picked a low population server to lower my chances of getting killed.

 

Started doing some looting in kamyshovo, the server crashed about 10 minutes in. Changed server, my guy was rolled back about 5 minutes.

 

Next server crashed/restarted, but on the next server I was a new-spawn.

 

Not to bothered by it as I found a backpack and stuff pretty quickly, but this should get fixed. And by the way, I'm not one of those to server hop for loot, these were legitimate reasons to change server.

This never happened to me by changing servers, but sometimes when I get back to the game, I'm a fresh spawn.

This is alpha so expect frustrating bugs. Last time I lost a character with 100 bullets for M4 and a fully geared up body because of a simple bug that killed me. So me and my friend had to go trough all that tension of looting in the middle of the night for about 2 ~ 3 hours knowing people can be at the next corner, and here I am, with 300 bullets for my beautiful fully customized M4. You just need to accept it and try to make it better the next time.

This has happened to me and my friends so many times. It's incredibly frustrating. I understand "It's Alpha" but still, it is infuriating to lose hours upon hours of progress just to see a character disappear. For example, me and my friends would be kitted out, then change server, and boom! Starting fresh again. We then try and go to other servers but the characters reset each time. Then, if we are hugely lucky we get that old kitted out character back again. It's very strange and I would like some answer as to why this happens and what can be done to fix it?

It's a common issue apparently to do with a server's ability to remain connected to the hive. Also, some servers have not yet been "white-listed" and so they will not have permission to access the hive yet and will not store your progress (or be able to retrieve your data from the hive, so logging in to these servers will effectively "wipe" your character).

You should go there, vote it up and add comments about your own experiences to increase visibility on this relatively critical issue.

 

 

In the meantime, I suggest you use the "Favorites" function to flag servers which reliably store your progress, then only play there.

Ah, I understand. How is it that I'm able to get the character back after trying a few servers? Is it something to do with the game being able to reconnect to the hive? Thanks for the informative and quick reply. I have added my two-cents to the feedback tracker!
