Server Hopping - technical game mechanic issue

Recommended Posts

Server hopping to get a positional advantage over other players in my opinion is an exploit.

I was playing with a clan mate for a few hours tonight when it culminated in a hold-out situation in a large military building with only one entrance. The other players logged off a character and moved him inside behind my other team mate and re-logged into our server, killing him. He then tried to wait me out as I was upstairs in the building, knowing full well what his plan was, I was suspicious. But I waited anyhow. Then of course I look behind me and he was there. This coupled with the combat logoffski players, it is nigh-on impossible for any prolonged combat engagements to occur.

Another previous encounter was in a forested area with a lone player running past us. We chased him of course, but when he noticed us behind him he promptly hid behind a tree and logged off without any attempt at contact.

I understand this is currently in alpha so I'm not too pissed off but I thought I would add a thread to voice a concern.

Server hopping for positional advantage in prolonged engagements is obviously a tough nut to crack without having server specific inventory and spawn locations, though I believe a log off timer would help alleviate the problem of those who log off when they hear shots fired.

A separate server change timer of sorts would be a maybe heavy handed solution to server hopping on public servers but would certainly be a step in the right direction.

Another idea is to boost the volume of spawn-ins so that you might hear from at least half a building width that someone is coming in, if you wanted to really do it, couple that with a static period a player must endure for a few seconds. With invulnerability of course.

Obviously filling a private server with upwards of 20 'trustworthy' people is challenging and removes a lot of aspects that make dayz a great concept. Meeting new players and engaging in socially difficult or outrageous situations is fantastic, making enemies and allies along the way is interesting. But things like these really take you out of the game, more-so than any bugs or lack of content could do.

TL;DR Server hopping is for fags, this isn't a teleporting fps sci-fi game. Log off timer please.

It's considered an exploit to everyone else as well, buddy.

That's why I sit in server hop hotspots on low population servers to kill people.

They said they're working on this already, right now it's bugged so it is not implemented in the game yet. At least I think that's what I read.
