King of kong 1117 Posted December 29, 2013 - Get Off The Coast As Soon As Possible. Die On The Coast? that's your own fault for not heeding advice. You will find houses up north, they tend to have more food than coastal places.-Use wells. There's often one behind a house in (almost) every village. Simply walk up, wait until prompted, then keep drinking until you're told you feel full.-Avoid Dry Food When Thirsty: Cereal, and rice, will make you thirsty, only eat them when near a water source.-Don't Drink Soda. It only hydrates you a little bit. Then it has a negligible effect on thirst. Soda Is For Energy.-Have Something That You Want To Keep In Good Condition? If there's space. Put it in your trousers. BanditZ/BFKiddies are more likely to aim for the chest.-Don't Eat Rotten Fruit. If you have fresh fruit. Find a container to store it in for freshness.-Don't Trust Heavily-Armed Dudes. Seriously, Only Get Near To Them If You're Armed And Have The Upper Hand.-Bluff. Have an empty mag in your gun? The enemy don't need to know that it's empty. Use it to keep your prisoners In-line, just bluff.-Always Scout. Make sure there are no fellow Chernarussians in the area before you go running into a town. If the Infected are there, it often means that it's not been looted yet. But that's not a 100% guarantee.-Act Like You're A Trained Soldier. I may sound strange. But using Military tactics is a good way to make people think you know what you're doing. Have your gun trained when going around corners. Occasionally drop down on the ground and survey the area. Have one guy cover the other while advancing, if you're in a group.-Go On GB Servers. They're always Daylight I believe. That's it for now. Perhaps I'll update it. Chronous 5 Posted December 29, 2013 you don't need a can opener to open cans anything sharp will do, can openers just ensure you don't drop any one the food when opening.
jaginun 87 Posted December 29, 2013 (edited) I'll just add some specific tips I've found from playing Standalone, concerning tactics. - Unlike in the Mod, melee weapons aren't totally useless, and should be your sole zombie killing weapon. Keep your bullets for players. - If you aren't connecting your melee hits when swinging, try running into the zombies when you do it, but be careful, it might make you easier to be hit. - If you're being shot at, the worst thing you can do is get on the ground. This might seem like the opposite of what you should do, but with the clunky movement system in ArmA and ArmA related games, it means shooting a still target is way easier than one on the run, even if the still target has a small profile. - Obviously, don't trust anyone. But if you are talking to another survivor, ask him questions, specifically about his team/teammates. If he pauses before he answers, it's likely he's got a friend somewhere nearby. Politely end the conversation and move away, while using alt to keep an eye on him. After he is out of sight, change course dramatically to make sure you are not being followed. - Looting in cities should be quick and efficient. While a starving player may be compelled to crack a tin of sardines open on the spot, or to rearrange his inventory to sort out ammo from food, this is likely to end up attracting zombies or players. Get into the forest to start stuffing your face with native Slavic treats and to get OCD on your backpack. - When engaging in combat, remember that 19/20 of your bullets should be used to keep your enemy in cover, especially with automatic weapons. Fire in Semi Auto mode, with a bullet being fired every 0.6 seconds or there about, for about 3 seconds, and then move to a better location. He will be too scared to look for where you are lest his head get blown off, and you'll sneak up on him with a better position.
