Flashlight Discussion (Headlamp)

Recommended Posts

Personally think the flashlights are very poorly implemented in the game, i've never played the mod only the SA so i don't have a baseline of what a good working flashlight in an Arma game is, But coming from source engine games, Half-Life 2/Garry's Mod etc, i think there is a lot of room for tuning this tool.

To keep it simple i took a few snaps with the headlamp on and in various tactical positions. these were my findings.

I still haven't been able to determine if they intentionally made it this way to give a more "scary" feel or to make it harder to play. But after logging enough hours of play I can say without a doubt it makes the light absolutely useless to use when your running around with your mouse 3/4 of the way up the mousepad to keep the light in the appropriate area, never mind the fact that people will only have the light on if they are fairly certain there isn't anyone in the immediate area able to see them, so essentially if your using it, you want it to work well.

I think in a REAL zombie apocalypse situation if you had a headlamp on and were using it, you would undoubtedly have it positioned so its perfectly in line with the task your doing, firing a gun? then its pointed more at the target and not 90% of the gun.

and thats really what this game is going for right? im not asking for multiple options of it to be moved to, just raise it up enough on all items its collaborated with to light up the area your looking at!

Thats my #1 gripe, now another thing i would love to see is have the headlamp cast a more Oval Shaped glow of light vs the tight circle the hand flashlight does, or maybe equipping the headlamp with 2x batteries doubles the brightness?  Please share your thoughts on it, I am curious to hear what everyone else thinks. :beans:

I'd like the option to aim the headlamp up/down from the menu like you can with most headlamps IRL. That way if you want it pointing low you can toggle it down a few. Alternatively, some preset positions for it to cycle through (feet, hands, gun, up).

it seems right to me.. idk why but it does.

Pointing it straight at the ground when you bring up your gun makes no sense and makes what could be a great item completely and utterly useless.

I would do so much with the flashlights in DayZ.  Cone angle, falloff, brightness, flickering as batteries die, different attachments for Red light to preserve night vision, using them as weapons, adding ambient glow around the light beam.  Man there is so much stuff!
