TIC 1050 Posted December 25, 2013 (edited) Hey guys, TIC here and I don't normally share my stories of the Standalone but I went on to join a couple friends of mine that I know; a couple in real life. When we got on, they were all in Chernogorsk. Note: Next time I will display screenshots of my expeditions. :) Oh and by the way, the mic I currently had in order to talk to my friends semi-works due to a loose wire. My friend told me he'd buy me one for Christmas in which I doubt; same person who gave me a broken mic. Character Setup(Picture was taken later on another server after I left) My First Expedition with "Friends"(Map)Note; Expand Spoiler for full map on where I have traveled. Red dots• represent the beginning and the end which are only 2 of course. The white line ------- represents where I have went, it's as simple as a parallel line. I have used Paint since it was fastest to use. Where I Started Off: Pulkovo. My mission was to meet with my friends which there were 4 of them at the time and they were discussing about how the Standalone was in terms of features and I kept correcting them. I ignored their bashing on the game in which I won't go into full detail of due to the ridiculousness; even upon my corrections to them. My goal was to supply them food and water in return for some ammunition since it was scarce and needed some in case I needed to defend myself in the future and to assist them in that time. Since I was already equipped from my previous experience except my firearms were completely empty and only had the shovel to depend on meant for killing zombies with, I was by Pulkovo and my buddies were saying how they were trying to find themselves food and water. They were discussing about killing other players around Chernogorsk, which is a location they all wanted to meet up at. Now my goal was to hurry on down there while they were still alive. I checked a couple houses before leaving and found a useful splitting axe in pristine condition and replaced it instead of using the shovel I was having. Now this is more effective to zombies over the shovel ;) Jogging to Chernogorsk As I was running down, a friend of mine, let's say Friend #1 to keep them anonymous was killed by another bandit with an M4(I say another bandit since my friends were pretty much bandits themselves) so Friend #1 logs out, obviously irritated. The 3 other friends decided to go to the docks of Chernogorsk to keep themselves together and provide a way for them to not be flanked in any means. At this point, I was already by the apartment complexes northern of Chernogorsk, heavily contemplating if it's even worth my time entering this forsaken city. I decide I take my chances and run down to the forest and observe the horizon upon the town to check if it's clear of any other bandits. Normally I hide from anybody except the ones I trust. At the moment now, I hide myself behind a rock. Friend #2 states that his vision is graying out due to the lack of food. I begin running to the gas station in the nearby town and Friend #2 says he has fallen unconscious and you know how long that takes to get out of it so he just leaves. Leaving 2 more of my friends left and now they were attacked my an assailant with an M4 that killed one of my other friend(Friend #1). Entering the Compound. Mission was simple; enter the construction compound to look out for the assailant to communicate with my friends for the location where he was. I crouched down close to the wall and couldn't find him so I decided to get to the bottom floor and only saw a glimpse of him on the bottom floor making his way around. Since I was unarmed, I couldn't do much. Friend #3 takes a couple shots that I overhear and they both hit eachother, my friend becomes critically injured but killing the other person. Entering the Docks; Western end. While I was against the metal frame fence, Friend #3 sees me. He says "Lean left and right so I know it's you" and I did what he told me; or at least I thought he told me. He says come in. He mistakens me as Friend #4 but didn't realize he was with Friend #3. As I make my way to the red crates, he shoots Friend #4 and this is what the dialogue went: Friend #4: "I just got shot and died! I'm just going to quit then."Friend #3: "Wait, that was you? Then who's this guy?"TIC: "(2x) It's me, don't shoot" (Mic didn't go through so I ran closer to cover and say it in text direct chat) Friend #3 while attacked by zombies: "Oh that's you Travis? Fuck, why didn't you say it out loud?"TIC: "I would if my friend didn't give me a broken mic.." At this point, my friend attempts to fight off a zombie which clearly overpowers him due to his earlier injuries and he goes unconscious while I was trying to kill it with him. I managed to kill the zombie but Friend #3's body went over the dock into the water since he was nearby. Conclusion After I hid myself in a nearby building to abort since there truly was no imminent threat at this point. Leaving me as the last survivor. 4/5 remained dead. At this point, all my friends decided to quit and they were clearly frustrated except for myself. One of my friends were starting to say "We wouldn't have died if you had your mic, like seriously" After that, a full blown argument assumed and then on out, this would be the last time I'd ever be joining them again. It was a complete waste of my time having to run down there only for a big compromise. Moral of the Story: It's viable to know that you should never assume an early access game as if it was fully released. Due to their assumptions; they thought because it was released, it means there would be everything present even though it was warned that you shouldn't buy it unless it says directly as quoted: "PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE IT UNLESS YOU WANT TO ACTIVELY SUPPORT DEVELOPMENT OF THE GAME AND ARE PREPARED TO HANDLE WITH SERIOUS ISSUES AND POSSIBLE INTERRUPTIONS OF GAME FUNCTIONING." And remember,Happy holidays! Have A Jolly Safe Survival! Edited December 25, 2013 by TIC321
Aussie Bogan 350 Posted December 25, 2013 (edited) Well said Thanks for sharing ;) I much enjoy the moral to the story... We are getting a great deal of new players joining Dayz, most expecting it to be polished and bug free. (Hence there are multiple threads complaining about basically everything pitty)... I'm glad you enjoyed it. :) The moral is more of an expression of how I feel as an resentment and an example of what my friends were portraying as an reflection to other people who are similar to this.. It sickens me to overhear them bashing on a game when they were warned about prior to purchasing. The definition of Alpha is entirely missed for them. All depends on everyone's perspective when "DayZ" comes to mind :) You're exactly right man. :)
