Sickerthansars 53 Posted December 30, 2013 they alreayd have a mechanic that was used in the mod, after firing a weapon, being hit, or iirc even just shot at or being within certain proximity to a player/live zombie you either couldnt log out at all or log out within a certain time frame usually like 1min+ or so why people think they would implement one of the complex untested systems proposed on the fourms instead of carrying over this simple mechanic they already know works is beyond me
louist 163 Posted December 30, 2013 That's how it worked in ultima online. Worked fine. And Eve Online. Agreed
lundyhl@gmail.com 4 Posted December 30, 2013 But what if the campfire is in a house...you'll burn half the city down!
zreks 14 Posted December 30, 2013 there is also an easier fix for this bullshit, private hives. also if you wanna go really deep, look at sleeper servers in rust. they dont even let you log out anywhere but safe places otherwise ppl kill you in your sleep while you are logged off
.VincenT. 45 Posted December 30, 2013 Every player starts with a kit to make a small campfire (different from regular campfire) you can't cook with this campfire, but both campfires allow you to log out. Otherwise you cannot exit the game until you have your small campfire or regular campfire up. Any player can log out next to a lit campfire. When you light a campfire, it makes a fireplace sound so everyone knows you're attempting to log out. Then have a 30 second timer. So, you're in a firefight in a city. you corner a guy into a house. you hear the campfire lit. now you know he's either faking it or logging out within 30 seconds. otherwise you don't have to push the envelope and you know he's still in there. Tada. As for server hopping just make it to where if they log out they spawn outside the city in a ring like other posters have suggested. This also prevents ghosting so people can't spawn in behind a cleared building and surprise you thus ruining any tactical advantage a group has in clearing an area. The only hiccup to this small fire is how do you get it back in your inventory if you log out and appear away from the campfire? I'm sure a developer could get around this in a number of ways, but one of them would be to have it as a button in game that doesn't even take up any spaces for a lighter/wood and just automatically is the defacto "log out" button.or even better you dont let people log Out near buildings, only in the woods - your idea is awesome man. .VincenT. 45 Posted December 30, 2013 7000th thread about this, read around. They did it in the mod, so why suggest anything different?Cause this idea is better, has some survival aspect and sounds cooler?
ZedsDeadBaby 2287 Posted December 30, 2013 (edited) A campfire is just a logout timer that takes up space in your inventory and makes no sense. "Sorry, sir, you can't blink completely out of existence until you set this wood alight!" Logging out doesn't make any sense in the context of the game. So don't try to make it. Just add a 30 second logout timer and ship it. It's done. The problem is not that hard to solve. Why do we have to have these threads every 2 days like rocket doesn't know how to fix this simple problem? He already says he fixed it and just hasn't put the fix out yet. Cause this idea is better, has some survival aspect and sounds cooler? Yeah. All good survivalists know the rule "You can't phase out of reality completely without first lighting a good campfire." It's practically survival rule #1. Edited December 30, 2013 by ZedsDeadBaby
