Suggestion : Continuous Servers

Recommended Posts

Had the idea that it might be nice to have some servers that achieve a persistent player base using the following features.

only allow a set list of say 1500 players to have access to a particular server.

After say a week(longer if a long term member) of inactivity you are removed from the list.

When you die you are removed from the list making death even in the early game consequential.

Each player has only on character locked to the server.

If the list is full there would be a waiting list.

Results:

-Reduce the amount of people that kill captives as if you find someone and capture them and they turn out to friendly or interesting you might like to keep them in the server opposed to killing them and letting some new person onto the list. It may even result in captures caring for the captive and making sure they will survive to keep them in the sudo reality of the particular world in the server.

-Having a limited number of players means that you may become familiar with certain players whether they be good or bad relationships.

-Having players be removed from the list if they die means caring for people you like is important as they won't be able to easily respawn.

-Consequence to playing carelessly as both well equipped and fresh player.

This kind of persistent player base server is not envisaged with current features where PvP is currently quite common, but instead when zombies become more formidable( smarter AI, more numerous) this will:

-draw players aggressive tenancies towards fighting hordes of zombies to clear areas for looting and for self protection,

-make players second guess KOS as fights could draw attention of zombies and result in loosing the other player which could now be more useful alive,

-and will make solo play (which I enjoy) harder encouraging cooperation even if its only temporary.

These temporary alliances are what make survival films have great tension, how long can every one trust each other for, who will be the first to betray , ...

which is currently lacking in the game as there is no need to have companions, being alone is safer as other player present the most danger.

Very interested in feedback on preferences or alterations you might prefer. This is not intended as a game wide suggestion, just for select servers

Its called a white listed private hive... or at least you're describing a variance there of. A lot of people don't quite get the beauty of the 'public hive' concept. When the script kiddies were running rampant in the MOD and private hives were allowed I jumped right over. Played on a server for a couple weeks, lotsa time and effort, kitted myself out very well and stocked two tents, then the 'owner' of the server got grounded and his mom refused to pay another months rent on the server*... all gone, all the time, all the effort. Not even the gear I had on my person.

*I'm not really sure why the server went down, well there's only one reason the server company didn't get paid, the 'why' they didn't get paid is up for debate, but I'm sticking with it was a 13 year old that pissed off his mum.

Good ideas. As stated, this will require private server/private hive functionality. The rest is just feature requests that are already on the roadmap or will have to wait until we can begin to actively mod for DayZ.

In the future, everything will be possible!
