Quick side roll to crouched/prone...

Recommended Posts

The other day I was playing DayZ and was way up North, just south of the NE Airstrip. It had taken me a long time to trek there and I had spent probably a few hours scavenging for food, water, compass, map etc...

I entered a house, and thought I heard a person over the mic for a fraction of a second. Then I heard a zombie near by, so dismissed it...Next thing, I turn around and a person comes into the house I am searching, weapon already trained on me, and as I say "Friendly!" they shoot with a mosin...I make a last minute attempt to charge them with my axe (only weapon I had apart from a pistol with no ammo) and they shot again... Dead.

Now, this got me thinking in the way that only DayZ can... Why did they shoot me when I was basically unarmed and said I was friendly? If They wanted food etc. why not just rob me? What a fucking asshole... And so on...

Then something dawned on me...In that situation, if I had have had the ability to roll to quickly roll to the side, and to a crouched position, I may have survived that encounter...

Or, if I had had ammo for my pistol, and a chest holster, rolling to the side and drawing my pistol would have been perfect...Maybe they wouldn't have gotten than 2nd shot in, and maybe I could have saved myself from this murderous asshole.

So I was thinking that a double-tap of 'a' or 'd' while in a standing position could make our character roll either left or right, while drawing whatever weapon the have equipped in '1' on their hot-bar, for example.

Or that a weapon is only drawn if they have both a chest holster and a pistol, but if you have a weapon armed already, it just stays armed.

Or, in addition, double-tapping 'a+w' or 'd+w' would cause you to roll forwards and to the side, into a crouched position.

It occurred to me that this might at the very least give people a chance of surviving face-to-face, close-quarters encounters with people that are solely out to murder other survivors.

Regards,
