The only Game I Enjoy just walking in

Recommended Posts

I dont remember the last time I ever played a game that I just Walk around in... I find myself walking down streets just enjoying how beautiful and realistic the landscape in DayZ is. its nice and peaceful and really makes you relish the moments when your in a firefight with a bandit, and it made me really think about how interesting it is that all games these days are focused on the speed of gameplay and the pure adrenaline inducing action and why there arent more games like this where you just take it all in without sprinting through numbingly blasting enemies away without taking any consideration into what your surroundings look like...

just a random post I thought I would share with everyone.

Anyone else like to just walk and enjoy the gorgeous Cherarus landscape and awesome character animations :)

Have a good day!

I agree, this game is gorgeous with the new engine, the clouds add a lot in my opinion.  I really cannot wait until weather is added in and we get to see rain clouds creeping in before the rain starts :)!

Also, does anyone know if there are plans to implement seasons?  I think this would add great content to the game, making different things important based on the season i.e. warm clothing, staying dry, summer causes easier dehydration, food is scarce in winter etc.

I find myself doing that a lot in CoD: Ghosts. I find those visuals just breathtaking.

It's funny how they strive for that adrenaline inducing action, but I've had more adrenaline rushes playing slow paced dayz than any 'action' game I've ever played.

The only game where saying '' Ohh crap theirs a guy shooting at us over there!! Yeah but look at how realistic the trees are '' is acceptable.

I don't know what it is. In pretty much every other game I get quite annoyed when I have to travel for long distances. Just watching my character run, increasingly impatient to reach the destination to do stuff there. It's just an entirely different feeling in DayZ. Even though I spend a huge part of my time in DayZ traveling it never feels like empty, lost, wasted time. It's part of the experience that I enjoy so much. It's not about becoming harder, better, faster, stronger in the shortest amount of time possible. The journey is its own reward.

I wouldn't even consider traveling being particularly relaxing or laid back. I'm usually very aware of my surroundings, constantly looking for unexpected movement, watching the treeline. Maybe it's the occasional check if my bearing is still alright. Taking moments to stop and look at my compass and landmarks while prone in the tall grass. Finding my way without having a minimap track my every step and huge markers on the screen that tell me where to go and what to do. Knowing that everything is optional, that I can go where I please. That I don't have to "progress" to "continue" the game. Maybe it's the ever so slight smile and mildly warm feeling when reach the top of the last hill before reaching my destination and the familiar town structure appear in the valley on the horizon and I give myself an imaginary pat on the shoulder. Not because the journey is over, but because the world is so inviting even in its cruel harshness.

It's a different pace than in other games. A pace I can very much set myself, far beyond what is common. Sure, you can play anything as slowly as you like, but most games aren't made with that in mind. They don't expect you to stop for no particular reason to take in your environment and don't design it with that in mind. Not that I'm trying to imply that this was the intention of the creators of DayZ or rather the Chernarus map, but it's the wondrous concoction of a number of hard to grasp factors that just... work.

I would love seasons! even just a winter version of Chernarus would be kickass... I would even pay for this as like a Winter Themed DLC or something after the game is finished... Reskin the zombies to look a bit frosted add snow all over. snowy overcast weather effects... that would be awesome... and you would have to keep warm inside abondoned houses next to a fireplace... oh yea... that would be great...
