how do i look into other people's gear?

my friend and i were trying to exchange items... is there a way to snoop in his backpack/gear without dropping the item? we spent quite a bit of time to figure it out, didnt work, so one dropped the item on the ground for the other...

Right now you can only access the gear of an unconcious or cuffed person, I believe.

 

(Yet you can force fed others who run around you after you actually clicked the action. Welcome to the beautiful alpha :))

It's best to just drop it on the ground. Most of the time the item or items disappear for a bit but then will show up in a minute or two. Sometimes the items simply disappear to never return. It's best to trade on flat ground and preferably not in a building.
