A suggestion for server options

Recommended Posts

Hello, I got the Alpha and I am liking it so far, looking forward to seeing it progress.

I have been with Bohemia since the OFP days (back when I was 16, now age 27).  I think the number one thing that had me coming back was the near infinite ways I could play OFP / ARMA / Mods, Day Z, etc.

I had the option to tailor my own play experience, which in the end made the games more fun.  Whether it was making scenarios in the editor, making AI a little easier to kill.  It was like having a digital box of Army toys for adults.

In Day Z's current state, I found that there is a strong emphasis on what I find to be the least exciting part of the game - eating and drinking food.  At times it feels that I am controlling an obese child with a temper tantrum, rather than an adult attempting to survive from bandits and zombies - the more exciting part of the game.  Some may enjoy this gameplay, but for me, it's not my cup of tea.

1. It creates an issue where water/drinks are rare near starting coastal cities

2. It pigeonholes me into doing something I HAVE to do - when I'd rather be deciding and choosing what I WANT to do.

3. Too much of my time is spent getting food.  I never get a break from it.  It seems as soon as I'm done eating or drinking - I'm thirsty again.

Some may disagree with this, perhaps. But I think for some players like myself, this may be a bit of a turn-off.

My solution would be to give server owners the ability to modify their game server type.

Perhaps there are options for increased odds for weapon spawns, or increased zombies, or servers with little emphasis on food.

I understand that the developers are attempting to create a very specific play experience - but I believe giving people options to decide what's fun for themselves may prove to be far more successful.

1st welcome to the forums, loved OFP.  I think the way the mod unfolded and servers became beefed up with duplicate scripts from eachother got a bit messy.  The ability to manipulate more from a hosting perspective is great but to much can change the entire life cycle of DayZ SA and the growth/path it is taking.

Regards,

Steak.
