For those complaining about KOS, try this please!

 Most important- Do not go anywhere near balota, in fact, stay far, far away from that city, and any surrounding cities, ill explain why in a bit

 

- Never attempt to make peace with someone if you have your gun out, kill em with kindness, but dont expose yourself like an idiot. Try yelling FREINDLY?! really loudly and ask them to sheath their weapons

 

- Immidiatly after establishing some sort of trust, offer a trade. Say something like, "Hey i noticed you use an M4, i can offer some ammo if you can give me something in return!" 

 

- Tell the person a bit about yourself, where you have been, what your intentions are, and why you wanted to be friendly in the first place

 

-  Final step (this is usually the final step in establishing friendship) Ask them to add you on Steam, most players who intend to kill you wont do this.. Some will, but most wont since it is similar to exchanging ID's in the real world.

 

 

IMPORTANT FINAL NOTES: Balota is a commonplace for server hoppers who have probobly just died a terrible death and will be ruthless to kill with a vengance and without mercy. You could almost consider the people in and around that part of the world to be completely hostile and consider it the "Wilderness" or PVP zone. 

 

 If you run into someone anywhere else, chances are they will want to talk to you out of sheer lonlieness as the rest of the map is pretty barren with players thanks to the black whole which is balota.

 

 This is Alpha advice, the gameplay mechanics and player interaction will change throughout development, but i hope this helps for now

Good tips, I'd also recommend dressing as a survivor. Less intimidating if you're wearing a plaid shirt or raincoat than full military gear with a mask or something.

Good advice, but it usually doesn't work, if someone is KoSing he will kill you no matter if you scream you're friendly or if you offer him to trade your DMR for rotten banana, asshole is just asshole. I tried to be very nice to players, 9/10 killed me after I told them I'm friendly and I didn't have a weapon. Sometimes you will meet a cool guy you can trust and team up with, but those guys are very rare. 

 

Also If you want to stay away from cities like Balota, Cherno, etc then you're not gonna find any good gear, unless in incoming updates devs will change loot table.

You are just exrtemeley unfortunate then, i have come across about 80% of people who would rather talk than shoot, 10% who want to betray, and 10% who just kill for no reason whatsoever...

 

Of course, in balota, its 99% of people kill you on sight, 1% just wana talk :P

For the last bit... cherno, like other cities, have A LOT of residential buildings to gear up decently. If anything, I would highly recommend Berezino, there is NEVER anyone there and each building has loot in it. Also, there is a school near the harbor which always has either a Mosin or handgun on the top floor.

I don't sign that, in SA you can almost everywhere find decent gear, not just at the coast or on air-fields.
