NuckFuts 265 Posted December 22, 2013 As title states, I have the money to get DayZ but to be honest was holding back until the game gets a little more mature.. Rocket said somewhere don't buy it yet and for a games developer to say don't get it yet was enough for me to hold off. So yeah, I have been content enough so far with watching a few streams and YT vids of other peoples DayZ shenanigans, until now.. Yep, I could buy DayZ at the discount price for early Alpha right now which is fair enough right?, then not even play until such a time the game gets a little better, or I could hold off entirely and buy it later when it costs more but is a better experience, plus be helping the games development by paying the higher price. So what's for the best? I dont want to buy it and play it now and potentially get bored with it after a couple weeks and to have done that just because its cheap.. or what would be even worse would be to jump in now and ruin any kind of enhanced immersion I could have got if I had have held off. I soooo want to play right now! but on the other hand I sooo want to play it when its more complete and awesome! a truly awful dilemma.. I understand impatience can get the better of many a gaming soul, as you can see its starting to eat at me already, hence the post.. but since I/we have all waited this long what's another few months? Help! TL;DR? Should I get the game now or wait until its better?
gloriousgonzo (DayZ) 4 Posted December 22, 2013 I don't see why you wouldn't be able to play it right now and also when new features have been added? Its not like its deleted upon release. Also new features should help keep the gameplay fresh. The good thing here is that it is a sandbox game, thriving on player interaction/emergent gameplay which doesn't get boring like a single player game or even a themepark mmo. shenanigansmc 19 Posted December 22, 2013 (edited) You could also buy it now, support the devs right now and just play it a bit/not at all until you think it can immerse you enough to satisfy you. I have it now, and love it even at this relatively basic stage. There is enough to get a few hours out of it (I have played 12hrs, still nowhere near bored. I have seen reviews on steam where people have played it for over 50 hours already) (paragraph below edited in right after posted, thought of it right after clicking the post button :P)The thing is, even if you play it to extent you have seen all the GAMES content, there are still player interactions. Satisfy yourself by helping a coastal cutie, kill players (that are the same level equipment wise as you, dont kill the people who genuinely cant fight back to any extent) or laugh at the people being really weird. I saw some group hailing some guy with a payday mask and dancing on youtube. Edited December 22, 2013 by Shenanigans
wastelandsamurai 41 Posted December 22, 2013 If you have to ask then NO.The game is very incomplete. The game is unbalanced for the means of testing. Your character can be wiped for no reason what so ever, with out warning. Zombies ignore walls and walk through them. There are tons of placeholder sounds and graphics. ( MY RICOCHET FISTS CONQUER THE WORLD! ) That All said I beilve that this will be one of the best games of our time. I have put in over 50 hours in a matter of 5 days and I have had a blast. I have had such a good time because I understand the current state of the game and MY ROLE AS A TESTER. I laugh when my character runs through a wall instead of looking out the window and kills him self. This is what rocket said and I think you should listen to him. My opinion For the current game? NoFor the price? No (it will stay this price for some time)To see the game? No (you can watch streams)To participate in development? Possibly Overall, I would not recommend it. But I think in a few weeks, it might go from "possible" to "yes" on the last one.
kazeen 15 Posted December 22, 2013 Buy it now on steam and install it later.
NuckFuts 265 Posted December 22, 2013 Thanks for the feedback guys.. I have played a few Alpha titles over the past couple years and have nearly always been disappointed in them, its not that they have been bad games but rather my own impatience and jumping on them early has given me a bad impression of them.. for that reason alone I'm thinking its better for me personally to hold off for a few more weeks/months and grab it further down the dev cycle. DayZ however is a different kind of game, I'm sure I would enjoy it right now, no doubt about it, its unlike any other game I have ever played in that it's a unique experience for sure.. but I truly fear that jumping in now I would only unfairly judge it, not because I'm a dick like that.. but because I will have too high expectations for it. I can keep up with progress by watching streams and checkin in the forums :) Buy it now on steam and install it later. I can see how that's a viable option to cut costs, on the other hand, I have a feeling DayZ will be worth full price when complete :)

blitz 64 Posted December 22, 2013 uy it now, even if you don't play it, it will be cheaper now :)
Guest Posted December 22, 2013 You're over-thinking it. There is enough in the game to make it enjoyable for a little while. I haven't encountered many bugs in the game as of yet. A few quirks, but that's about it. Ultimately if you're going to get the game at some point, you might as well buy it now. Even if you don't play it (you will though) until it's released post-Alpha, you still save money on the cost of the game. At the moment, I love it.

Hall said that for all the little 10 year-olds that cry over spilt milk. As it is now, its much better than the mod ever was. I honestly don't think I could ever play the mod again. Quit pussyfooting around and buy it!!! Edited December 22, 2013 by Bennet
