Brilliant, simplistic idea on how to fix the "server hopping" problem.

I just had a really good idea that would almost completely fix the server hopping problem at the barracks.

 

Instead of just being able to open the doors to the barracks, we should need a keycard to open the doors.

 

Something that you can only find on Military zombies bodies, and is a one time use.

 

So even if you collected 3 of them, you could only hop to one server, loot all 3 barracks, but then you would have to go farm for more keycards.

 

I mean... how often are military buildings unlocked anyways?

 

What do you guys think?

 

"well what if they DC inside the barracks, then hop from there?"

 

Make loot only spawn if the keycard is used on the main door.

It's a neat idea, but I'm not a fan.

 

The whole locked doors, etc is a path DayZ should never go down.

 

 

Besides, if they do that, people would/can/will just argue about why they can't smash a window and go in that way.

 

EDIT: People would also just leave doors open.

my first thought is that if the first guy at the barracks is smart, he'll clear out the zeds that are there, collect any avail keycards and close the doors behind him. He's got the only keys for that specific server until reset

It's a neat idea, but I'm not a fan.

 

The whole locked doors, etc is a path DayZ should never go down.

The window thing is an easy fix, just add bars.

 

I was just thinking of something realistic to stop people from server hopping... This would slow them down a lot.

No, not specific keycards, any keycard would open any barracks. But they would be a one time use.

 

Also have the Zeds that drop the Keycards no where near where they barracks are.

It just seems too complicated and tedious of a system to add. I have a feeling server hopping will become less rampant as the game progresses, and I just thing adding the whole keycards will just be an extreme pain in the ass, for a really obnoxious feature that could probably be patched in easier ways.

I've got an idea, "isolated servers" 

* The hive system is convenient to play with friends but sadly it has more cons than pros. 

 

* Server Hopping

* Ghosting 

* Looting dead servers

 

An isolated server eliminates all the problems that I've listed above.

Wouldn't it be easier to just auto teleport people out of the barracks to a designated location if they try to log on inside of the barracks? Then people would camp that spot to kill people, and eventually server hopping there would stop.

IIRC in the mod there was a system where when a player spawned in loot would not spawn directly around them for quite some time, this coupled with a simply delay between joining a different server, key word being different. People should not be penalized for having their net go down.

How about you stop crying about how others play the game? If it hurts you that much go play a different game and let the dev's come up with their solutions, doubt any of them will ever read your 5 cents and probably are not bothered about how you feel about server hoping.

The only people complaining about server hopping are those doing it and coming up empty.. A normal player would simply go oh nothing here off to the next town.

Besides its rockets fault for sticking with these barracks ideas I still vote random loot stops everyone going to the barracks.

Yea, private hives do fix alot of problems, I was just throwing out an idea for those players that are not going to play on a Private hive.

Or you could just create a real hopping fix such as, everytime you change server, you spawn on the coast (with you stuff of course).
