[Guide] How to ALWAYS have the most up to date DayZ with 0 issues

Recommended Posts

I've been seeing a lot of you having problems with the game, mostly due to your DayZ code not matching the servers. Problems like spawning in debug field, ocean, forest; not having sound, invisible, no debug menu.

If you have a clean install each time you apply a beta patch, these problems won't happen. But reinstalling can take up time, and beta patches are pretty frequent. So to ensure you have the game working 100% of the time with minimal effort, you can follow this guide. At the end of the guide you will have a set of default files you will copy/paste each time there is a beta patch, doing this will make sure you have no conflicts between patches. I do this, and I have never had a single problem.

Step One: Uninstall Arma 2 + OA, then go to C:\Program Files or wherever your Arma is installed, and delete the "Bohemia Interactive" folder.

This will ensure you have a clean install of the game to work with.

Step Two: Reinstall Arma + OA and apply the latest ARMA 2 patch located here: http://www.arma2.com/index.php?Itemid=20

Making sure to only do this step, and not installing anything DayZ related.

Step Three: Copy/Paste the "Bohemia Interactive" folder from your C:\Program Files install location; to another location on your computer for safe keeping, these will be your default files. Now you have the core set of files that you will use any time DayZ updates, do not modify the default files once you have pasted them.

Now you can install the latest DayZ beta to your real install location, (not the default files we saved) the patch should automatically detect the correct install location. Beta files located here: http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php

Once installed make sure you right-click and add the "-mod=@dayz" to the target line of the "Launch Arma2 OA Beta Patch" shortcut, and run the game via this shortcut!!!

Your game should be working fine now. Launch the game via "Launch Arma2 OA Beta Patch" as administrator.

IMPORTANT!!

WHEN DayZ does update all you need to do is delete the "Bohemia Interactive" folder in your install location and copy the backup "Bohemia Interactive" we saved BACK to that location. Then install the latest beta and do the "-mod=@dayz" to the target line of the "Launch Arma2 OA Beta Patch" shortcut, and run the game via this shortcut.

If you followed these steps you should have the game working within a few min each time it updates, and with 0 errors from now on.

Good Luck!

I prefer to stay away from sixupdater, I've had problems with it before, as have others. By following this guide you will always have a clean install with no patch conflicting.

Why such complicated process ?

Here you have NORMAL manual process that works for me and 20+ of my friends, we all use the SAME procesdude and some have Arma 2 free some Arma 2 retail.

STEAM INSTALLATION

1) Download both ARMA 2 and ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead through Steam.

2) Run the game once before proceeding.

3) Download DayZ Mod files. http://armafiles.info/dayz/

4) Make a folder named "@DayZ" in your Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead directory.

5) Inside "@DayZ" folder create another folder named "Addons". It should look like this: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\@DayZ\Addons

6) Unpack all DayZ Mod files in the "Addons" folder.

7) Download and install beta patch from http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php (Latest patch is in the green field top of page)

8) Add Arma2AO.exe beta as steam shortcut

Make a new non-steam shortcut, choose Browse then point it to:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\Expansion\beta\arma2oa.exe The box will close so then choose Add Selected Programs button in the steam add programs box.

Find the shortcut you just made in your Steam library, right click and choose properties.

Rename the steam shortcut to Dayz or Arma2 OA BETA.

Press target line and delete the target line and copy paste the following:

( edit paths if you have different installation folder )

"c:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\Expansion\beta\arma2oa.exe" "-beta=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion" "-mod=c:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2;Expansion;ca;@dayz" -nosplash skipIntro -cpuCount=4 -world=empty Once you're done making sure that the pathways are correct you paste that into the target line in the steam options of the shortcut, all of it.

Delete the Start In line and replace it with this. (edit this if you have a different installation location) "c:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\"

ARMA 2 FREE + OA

Copy folder Addons from \arma2 free\Addons to \arma 2 operation arrowhead\Addons

Target line:

"c:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\Expansion\beta\arma2oa.exe" "-beta=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion" "-mod=c:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 free;Expansion;ca;@dayz" -nosplash

p.s. If you have Arma 2 retail and AO Steam make sure you change target line path.

There were problems when it was first released, but that was a long time ago. It's an invaluable and pain-free tool for anyone who uses mods, particularly when using multiple modsets.
