As the title says, are characters not being saved yet?

 

I bought DayZ the other day on steam, played it an hour or so and logged of. Today I logged in and my character was gone. So since this is an early alpha, are characters not saved yet and do you get a new one each session?

This is going to happen a lot. It's an Alpha, so Rocket and his team are going to be doing a lot of bug fixing.
