Day Z backstory

Recommended Posts

I read a post a day or two ago that someone wrote about how Day Z could have happened, vaccine in the clouds falling as rain caused the infection etc. I told my buddy about it but now cant find the thread, can someone post a link for me?

I don't think there is an official backstory yet so anything written was probably just someone's creative imagination. If you want to create some sort of backstory for yourself I highly recommend the book "World War Z" by Max Brooks as a plausible zombie story that isn't horror writing.

the usual back-story is still good to use.

an unknown viral infection, possibly from all up in space, or animalistic in origin spreads. the infection is rapid as it attacks the brain and causes people to fly into an absolute rage towards the un-infected.

the worlds' military forces are near-helpless as the contagion swirls chaos within their ranks. in order to keep rampant destruction to a minimum, they are all forced to encircle their own wagon at first and deal with the fallout later. the militaries themselves are an interesting subject in all of it. they are at once the saviors of mankind but having to possibly "cleanse" all remnants of the infected to ensure future survival. i once talked to an ex-british soldier about this scenario. when i asked if london would be wiped out to clear the way for the next generation his response was simply "without a doubt".

theres a scene in the old night of the living dead at the end where local people drink coffee and shoot zombies along with the army. those few scenes themselves are what sum up the back story of day z for me. amidst the events, people bonded and tried to fight it off, only later would they break down yet again. the regular folk into groups of bandits, and the military into highly armed death squads.
